I'm for it, though I'm upset that there's no single payer option.  I'm also upset about the way the discussion gets distorted in both directions, though of course, being a Liberal, I can't help but feel more upset about the distortions that seem to come from the conservative direction.  I suspect that this is evidence of a certain amount of distortion on my part.  I only wish I could get enough perspective to be able to see it.  I can't.

I think you have to be very careful before you draw any conclusions from such a small sample but it’s certainly clear that some people would rather believe what they’re told is in the bill rather than actually reading it for themselves.

The original bill, in my opinion, was a very good attempt to solve a very real problem. The current watered down shell of a bill isn’t.  At this point I think the reason for the bill has been forgotten and the measure of success or failure now pivots on the politicised point of whether it succeeds or fails to be passed not whether it’s the best solution to the problem it set out to solve.

Personally I hope it isn’t passed.

It's a far cry from what many of us hoped for, but I'm afraid if it fails it will be at least a decade or so before we get another shot at it. Then again, maybe I'm just being selfish. The hope of possibly having some sort of insurance I can afford that would cover my pre-existing conditions is perhaps the carrot that makes me want to see it pass.

Health care has to be substantially reformed Jennifer and judging by the estimates of future costs it has to be done in the next five years.

This current bill is akin to applying a sticking plaster over a cancerous wound, it’s better than nothing but ultimately more will need to be done otherwise the patient – in this case the American economy – isn’t likely to survive.

common sense dictates that it’d be better to deal with it now than put it off until it’s too late but either way it’ll have to be done at some point.
