"The developing world has been told that it's necessary to give up freedom in order to achieve progress. Nothing could be further from the truth. Freedom and economic advance go hand in hand; they are two sides of the same coin. The mainspring of human progress is found not in controlling and harnessing human energy but in setting it free. The most valuable resource is not oil or precious metals or even territory; it's the infinite richness of human potential. The creative genius and diligence unleashed when people are free and working to improve their lot and that of their families is the greatest force for good on this planet." --Ronald Reagan

"Now, what we're doing, I want to be clear, we're not trying to push financial reform because we begrudge success that's fairly earned. I mean, I do think at a certain point you've made enough money." --Barack Obama

Of course, the Obamas reported $5.5 million in income last year. When will it be enough, Barack?

"I do not like it, Uncle Sam. I do not like it, Sam I am. I do not like these dirty crooks; neither how they cook the books. I do not like when Congress steals. I do not like their secret deals. I do not like the speaker Nan. I do not like this "YES WE CAN." I do not like this kind of "hope." I do not like it, nope..., nope, NOPE!"

The democracy will cease to exist
when you take away from those
who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
  Thomas Jefferson

It is incumbent on every
generation to pay its own debts as it goes.
A principle which if acted on would save
one-half the wars of the world.
Thomas Jefferson

I predict future happiness for
Americans if they can prevent the government
from wasting the labors of the people under the
pretense of taking care of them.
  Thomas Jefferson

My reading of history convinces me
that most bad government results from too much
  government.
Thomas Jefferson

To compel a man to subsidize with
his taxes the propagation of ideas which he
disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.

'I believe that
banking institutions are more dangerous to
  our liberties than standing armies.
If the American people ever allow
private banks to control the issue of their
currency, first by inflation, then by
deflation, the banks and corporations that will
grow up around the banks will deprive the people
of all property - until their children
wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers

Great -- so then no more transferring the wealth of the country from the working class to Wall Street bankers then... agreed?

Righto then.  Cut defense spending in half, bring home troops from all overseas deployments immediately per TJ.

Yep -- strike the Patriot act pronto.

Yep, cut everything to zero -- can't find anything that someone isn't against.  Total anarchy though -- even I'm against that -- so -- wow -- have to chase the old tail a bit on that one Mike.  How you propose implementing it?

GReaT! -- So, you're behind greater banking and financial regulation then...that's the spirit!

How do I propose implementing that, LR? These are quotes. Read the title of the thread. Don;t try to make it personal with me....yet again. You have any questions, ask Thomas Jefferson.

Yep, the truth, according to you.

I repeat - take it up with Thomas Jefferson. I'm sure he will give your comments the attention they deserve

I'm taking them up with you because they are YOUR favorite quotes, words of wisdom, personal mottoes, thoughts to live by... selected from disparate passages from Thomas Jefferson out of context to attempt to make Mr. Jefferson hold an political position which he did not.

Really? Show me how you came up with that. Nothing but the facts?  Based on that comment I would say just the opposite.

Don't have to...and never said he did. They are individual quotes of his. There's been no claim he made them all at one time. If you look at them, with his name after each one, you will see they are individual. If they were all said at the same time, his name would simply have been at the end. Your Spanish English teacher never told you that?

Well if you understand English Mike -- then you understand the word "disparate" and "individual" here are synonymous -- your own posting just acknowledged the facticity of my statement -- which you challenged earlier.

Never make someone your priority when you are merely an option.

I don't know where it came from, (so if you do, let me know!) but I definitely feel it's something to live by.

Come gather 'round people wherever you roam
And admit that the waters around you have grown
And accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin'
Ahh you better start swimmin' or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'

Harry S Truman:
Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go, and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.

Mohandas K. Gandhi:
The Roots of Violence:
Wealth without work,
Pleasure without conscience,
Knowledge without character,
Commerce without morality,
Science without humanity,
Worship without sacrifice,
Politics without principles.

I had a whole witty comment about how politics is annoying and even more so people who argue about it as if persuading one another will cause them victory. So then I deleted that witty comment for this less but still satisfying one.

Love the quotes Jenn
