“Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts. Is this the part of wise men, engaged in a great and arduous struggle for liberty? Are we disposed to be of the number of those who, having eyes, see not, and, having ears, hear not, the things which so nearly concern their temporal salvation? For my part, whatever anguish of spirit it may cost, I am willing to know the whole truth; to know the worst, and to provide for it."

Patrick Henry, March 23, 1775

"The real truth of the matter is that a financial element in the large centers has owned the government since the days of Andrew Jackson. - Franklin D. Roosevelt

"America: Where a man can say what he thinks, if he isn't afraid of his wife, his boss, his customer, his neighbors, or his government"  -- Joe Moore

You know you're a Teabagger when:

-You shout down someone who is talking because you believe they are trying to limit your freedom of speech.
- You nod in agreement when Rush Limbaugh/Glenn Beck/Sean Hannity/etc. say liberals have no ideas of their own.
- You believe that soylent green is real and that Obama wants to make cookies out of you,
- You worry that if your parents get a divorce, will they still be brother and sister?
- You claim to be a fighter for freedom, but think the ACLU are a bunch of pot-smoking anti-American hippies
- You actually CALL YOURSELF a teabagger without knowing the context of the original Boston Tea Party at all...
- You couldn't spell the word "deficit" during the Bush years, but now you're a fiscal expert.
- You hate government health care, and don't want them to touch your Medicare.

You Know You're a Liberal:

If you use the words "right wing extremist" at least four times in any given day.

If you can't see the irony in your own beliefs.

If your idea of hell is having to mind your own business and not meddle in other people's lives.

If you think that the Constitution is a living document and should be changed but the writings of Karl Marx are "written in stone".

If you think the answer to ANY crime, infraction, or injustice is counseling.

If you think only white people can be racist.

If you think that people need to be punished for good choices and rewarded for bad ones.

If you think a moment of silent prayer at the beginning of the school day constitutes government indoctrination and an intrusion on parental authority, while sex education, condom distribution and multiculturalism are values-neutral.

If you want to outlaw cigarettes and legalize marijuana.

If you think AIDS is spread by insufficient funding.

If you think you can spend other people's money better than they can.

If you think the government is a charitable organization.

If you think spending more money will reduce the deficit.

His mom lived in Long Island for ten years or so. God rest her soul. And- although, she's- wait- your mom's still- your mom's still alive. Your dad passed. God bless her soul." --Joe Biden, on the mother of Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen, who is very much alive, Washington, D.C., March 17, 2010

"If we do everything right, if we do it with absolute certainty, there's still a 30% chance we're going to get it wrong." --Joe Biden, speaking to members of the House Democratic caucus who were gathered in Williamsburg, Va., for their annual retreat, Feb. 6, 2009

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened." –Joe Biden, apparently unaware that FDR wasn't president when the stock market crashed in 1929 and that only experimental TV sets were in use at that time, interview with Katie Couric, Sept. 22, 2008

Mike, are you actually trying to provoke some sort of a sharp retort?  One after another nasty zinger at the President with no particular point to them that I can see?

Why not start a thread on silly things said by Joe Biden instead of taking a wit and wisdom sort of place and trying to get a rise from the Democrats in the house?  That way, you could have an entire thread to say this sort of stuff in, and if anybody wanted to complain, it'd be their lookout; or yours, if they decided to come back at you in the same spirit?

Thanks, Bob, but I don't recall asking for your advice. Jen decided to take that detour with her anonymous tea-bagger quote so I came along for the ride. Perhaps you could save your advice for her?

"The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. ... [I]t is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable -- and let it come! I repeat it, sir, let it come!" --Patrick Henry

"If there is anything good to say about Democrat control of the White House, Senate and House of Representatives, it's that their extraordinarily brazen, heavy-handed acts have aroused a level of constitutional interest among the American people that has been dormant for far too long." --economist Walter E.
