All damned day and night--that's what I hear. Y'ever notice that the minute you go bragging on something, the situation changes immediately and makes a liar outta ya?

Well, I was just bragging on my lovely, remote-controlled Frigidaire window unit, and yep--it went nuts on me.

I can't seem to turn the timer off. It apparently WANTS to be off, too, because it keeps beeping. I've tried unplugging it, resetting it, hitting it with a hammer, I looked for the source of the BEEP to remove it and STILL...

BEEP BEEP BEEP

And it's not even a little beep.

I can hear this thing beeping while I'm on the other side of the house.

Now.

As if that's not bad enough--somebody just ASK me what my husband does for a living.

Nod.

HVAC Mechanic/Operating Engineer

I guess I should be grateful he's not a gynecologist.

But you guys are always so helpful--has anybody else had a problem with a bleeping beeping air conditioner???

Oh...it gets BETTER!

I just went over there, and tried to reset it again, and on the cord I find this label:

WARNING--

This product contains lead, known to the State of California to cause cancer, and birth defects, and other reproductive harm.

Wash hands after handling.

* * *

Now there's some food for thought. Where is the lead? In the cord, and is it utilized throughout the entire CASING? And why is the harmful effects of lead known only to the State of California? And does lead make yer eyeballs hurt?

I mean, it's just my AIR we're talkin' 'bout here. Who's the friggin' genius who makes an air conditioner out of a lead based product?

So it's a stupid question. But did you unplug in an attempt to reset it?

I tell my wife all the time, "trust me I'm a doctor!". hehe

Hopefully by now you've had some relief! From the AC I mean.

Yes.

I reset it. Several times.

STILL...BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP.

I'm sleeping better though.

I just pretend I'm back in the hosptial.

The hubby was gonna try to fix it for me when I threatened to shoot the damned thing, but I told him to fix the last window unit so I'd have a standby.

sigh

It's July. It's New Orleans.

and Zach? I was concerned about the lead too, but then, I realized I have no idea of what I can't account for a lot of things that's been in my lungs.

*BEEP*

came back to read what I just typed to Zach--

no idea of what I can't account for? coffee...

sigh

Coffee sounds good at the moment.

Being the worry-whort I am, I'd get it checked out by a professional. But that's just me..

Hope you get it fix and that it will stop beeping lol

Or here I got a GIANT hammer in the tool box..

*Zach runs off to get it*

Darn... Stupid little brothers must of taken it.. grr.... lol

sigh..

Oh well...

Hope things get better for ya'

Well, if I could find my phillip's head screwdriver, I'd take off the little panel and clean beneath. It could be that condensation has gathered there (or even dust mixed with nicotine! ), and is short-circuiting the timing sensor.

And yep, I thought of that all by myself.

And nope, I do not have an HVAC license. *chuckle*

I'm not even a gynecologist.

I just happen to be familiar with both 'appliances'.

You thought that all by yourself?!?!?!

*Gasp*

lol..

Well If I were you, I'd use a hammer since I like using my primal instincts and smash things rather then trying to fix it with a Phillip screw driver.. lol

*Zach sniffs the air*

Wait... what's that smell?

*Sniffs again*

Is it?

..

Could it be???

...

Yes it is!!!!!

Mom made cookies!!!!!!!!  YAY!!!!!!!!!!

Yes i still act like a child..
I see nothing wrong with it myself lol

Well I'm gunna go get some cookies before little bro's get to them! lol..

Good luck!

sigh...

I have to go cook supper.

It occurs to me that if the stove were broken, that would be an emergency.

Update:

I was wrong.

I was on the right track, though. Something WAS confusing the timing button/sensor/thingie, but it wasn't dust, condensation, or even nicotine residue.

In fact, it was the lack of condensation that led me to the culprit.

THERE WAS SOMETHING LIVING IN THERE, AND IT WAS THIRSTY.

I have no idea if the suspect had wings, fur, or a tail, but it was served an eviction notice via my hammer. (Seriously, I heard that little bastid running for it's life!)

I hope it died of lead poisoning.

Serenity is beepless sleep. And like an idiot, I stayed up all night. Sheesh.

Ain't that just like me though? *grin*

You literally had a bug in your AC...or better yet, some small critter.

Reminds me of the photo I saw recently on someone's email when a lady's computer "fried itself"...smoke and all.

Actually, it was a small snake that "wound up" in her desktop...

computer fried snake, anyone?

Yanno? I never did find that snake I lost....but naw, this made too much noise to be my snake.

Had to be a mouse. "Da Parish" went on a grass cutting rampage, cracking down on the untended yards of all those houses that nobody seems to own now.

There's critters all over the place.

An exterminator could make a killing here.

grin

groan

I was gunna offer my hammer.. but I see you got things under control.. once again..

P.S. You said you didn't know if it had wings, fur,or a tail... well maybe it could of been a flying mouse with a snake tail? Haha..

Eh its a possability..

-Laughs to himself-

Sleep well..
