I take any  good intentioned sarcasm as joke
I take any bad intentioned sarcasm  as a low charactor of the owner

It is difficult to discern "intent" in text.

That's why we have these guys-->

Meet the emoticon.

Confusion is understandable online, D.

I tend to be both sensitive and inclined to sarcasm--and I still "slip". I still find myself being misunderstood, and I also find myself misunderstanding intent.

The best thing to do, though, is ask.

When I get stuff wrong, I apologize.

When I unintentionally hurt someone, I apologize.

Sometimes I even apologize for apologizing too much.

Then there is my tendency to over-explain m'self too. (Sorry about that folks.)

(See? That was sarcasm, but well-intentioned as a little joke, as indicated by the *winking smilie*)

Hope that helps.

Ditto.

That is why, when I am not sure why someone said something the way they did, or the way I interpreted it, I email them, directly.

That solves a lot of problems, overall.

Anger's ugly cousin?

For me, sarcasm is completely overrated as a true catalyst for contention or heavy concern. I prefer big daddy Blatant. Otherwise I'm spending a lot of time being offended for things that were probably harmless slips or quips.

There's no question to blatant. Blatant is pure-blooded and forthright.

Until they have the guts to bring blatant,  I'm not offended though I am concerned when others are hurt.

I do not find any virtue in sarcasm.

Essorant

what about good intentioned teasing? In general, it will be read with a laugh.

Reg took my thought. I think it's disguised anger.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
