My daughter says to me - "Mom, will you take care of the kids while I go to see Paul McCartney?  She wasn't even BORN when the Beatles were changing the course of musical history!!!

She and her sister invite me to see Rick Springfield annually - and get all excited to go there - We even bring Cassandra... who incidentally wasn't born when Rick Springfield was crooning "Jesse's Girl"...

Her date is taking HIS parents along to see Paul McCartney... They're both surprised that his dad is excited about it (He's not the excitable sort)... I said, "Of course he's excited - It's Paul McCartney!).. And tickets are only $150.00, after all...

She says, "Sorry, Mom -  I didn't buy the tickets" - the boyfriend's family did - and they wouldn't even THINK that I might like to go - They hardly know me, after all...

Now - The girls are buying Rick Springfield tickets for next weekend - for consolation?  I know that he's a good entertainer.  Cassandra even got his guitar pick last year.  But he's not Paul McCartney!  The thing is - If I don't go along again this year, I'll be asked to take the kids while THEY go off to play.

I wanna see Paul McCartney toooooooooooo.......

I am right there with you, girl... I found out that tickets were going on sale for his Philly show on April some-odd... they sold out the middle of March...
I have NEVER seen Sir Paul live, and he is the reason I continued playing bass when the guitar player and singer were getting all the girls.

IT is very small consolation, however... Maybe next year??

HEY, nobody said being a grandma was easy. But I didn't know being a grandparent was that big a sacrifice. There is no justice.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

When I was of a very YOUNG age...our gaggle of four gigglesome girls were invited by one of the parent's cousin's brother...or some such thing...to go see the Beatles.  We couldn't afford the tickets [which I didn't realize, then] as Mom just said, "you're too young - you cannot go."

But my friends went - and shared their memories with me.

So I join you in the "It ain't fair!" zone...

answer to your Q?

EVERYTHING!

LOL, you should NOT have to babysit but of course, you will
and I agree, thopugh I enjoyed watching Bruse on TV recently, a pBS special
it just AIN'T the same as PAUL live
even though he has as many wrinkles as I do now LOL
I never saw hime except on tV, though I did have a chance once and gave it up (stupid idiot m!!!!) to skiing instead, cuz I always figured I'd get another chance...though he costs too much for my pocketbook right now, even at the bargain price of $150, that's a car payment for me on a hair-above-minimum wage job here in this podunk ag-based city in rural Oregon
LOL
YOU shoulda been invited and PAID FOR!
ok, so daughters don't always think of moms first....except when they need a sitter? LOL, my teenager still thinks most boys/men are STOOOPIDand prefers riding horses, so I may never see the hey mom, will-you-babysit Q?????????

But which scenario is saddest? that's a TWO HUNDRED MILLION DOLLAR Q
Mysteria has an anser I'll bet .....

and? I won't bother to edit all the typos cuz I work graveyard for 9hr with 5 developmentally disabled adults so that daughter can ride horses and do her photography 6 days week at age 17 without having to work at Walmart or some other lame busyness

LOL, so the real answer is, what would I have done in the same circumstances?
YEP! you know. SIGH, and Paul is older than me.....LOL

Kacy and Nan already know this story

Picture it, (I just love those Golden Girls) ...

Aug. 18th in 1964 - The plane the Beatles were on had a refueling stop in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada before their arrival in San Fransciso to perform at the Cow Palace.  That brief 25 minute stop-over allowed a chance for all 4 Beatles to be interviewed by Bob Burns of CJAY-TV, and allowed my boss and I from CKRC-Radio some interview time with them on the stairs of the plane's landing.  I got to meet them on that day, and to this day nothing has equalled that moment in time in my life, nothing!  Have you ever been around a gadzillion screaming teenage women?  By the way, the only Beatle that was really polite and took the entire event seriously was Ringo Starr.

No, I don't have any pictures to prove it, but if anyone else does, I would sure like one (even the old newspaper that day would be great to find.)  At the time it just didn't occur to me to get one, and I have spent a long time trying to collect stuff from the old days for my girls, and this is one I haven't been able to collect, well yet.

OK - So I went to see Rick Springfield with Stacie & Cassandra - He still puts on a good show - jumping up on the balcony banisters to sing, moving through the audience singing "We All Need the Human Touch" and "Affair of the Heart"...

He stood singing on our chairs and patted Cassandra on the cheek.  Stacie got  his guitar pick, and I got the T-shirt... What more could we ask for??
