I just need to growl and scream tonight, beat myself up a little bit. How stupid...I mean STOOOPID can I get?

Pretty stupid I guess. I let my daughter leave and go to a horse show in Washington this afternoon even though she had a toothache, even though she went to the dentist yesterday and had a filling. Well, I went out to the barn and fed the horses, did some other barn chores, came home by 9 to 'surf' Pips, then got the phone call just before 11 pm *daughter Sara was in Emergency room* abscessed (sp?) tooth...they say my kid looks like ET tonight she is on the way back home, courtesy of my friend Carol, who is willing to drive all night to bring Sara home because (1) she(Carol) is wonderful (2) she also has a 17 yr old daughter named Sarah (3) she has a sleep disorder and stays up all night anyway (4)she is CAROL...woman strong, friend, the one I put down on paper as THE OTHER MOM in case of an emergency, if I am unavailable. (5) my car won't make it back and forth, 210 miles oneway, and Carol was already there for the horse show anyway?
Talk about a super lady! Oh, and did I mention she is DYNOMITE? and a clinical psychologist?

but I feel so stooopid!!!!!to have let Sara go, though her upper lip was a bit swollen this morning ...she is a TOUGHIE, said she'd be fine

wellllll, now, as Carol says, Sara has learned a serious lesson about when/when not to be a tough cookie

and she told me not to feel guilty or stooopid

but I do anyway

~sigh~
thanks for letting me rant until I turned blue

~Oh...and because I am NOT Carol? I am going to catch 40+winks before 6AM, when I must go to the barn and feed 25 horses, make a 'mandatory' 10AM appt with a local assistance agency, and also get my sweetie back to the dentist for an emergency evaluation sometime between 8 and noon.
*sigh*

A tough incident for you both Kacy, but one she is definitely going to learn from.  It is great you have someone to depend on, we all need that.  I hope she feels better on the antibiotics soon, and by the way, guilt is part of being a Mother - didn't you know that when you took the job.

Ladies, yep, 'twas a learning experience.
Now, with the help of Amoxicillan and Vicodin, the swelling and pain should disappear, and then she shall have a root canal next Thursday...ouch.
Anyway, I guess it's just another life event for both of us, and we are so lucky to have such a wonderful friend as Carol. Since she needs some pre-sale photos of her horses, Sara has the golden payback gift at her fingertips as soon as she is healed, as she is rapidly becoming a top notch equine photographer.
Thanks, for reading and holding my hand.
Sharon, yes....I almost forgot that was part of the job description.

Kacy,
Isn't stooopid spelled s-t-u-p-i-d? It's nice for her to learn that even "older" people can make bad choices! If it would make you feel any better you could tell me the "harem and camel" story now, okay?

larry! lol, but tonight I felt STOOOPID again
(but the dentist is even stupider or maybe even the stupidest? (stupid is as stupid does? LOL...GARP!)for not telling Sara to take ibupropen for the swelling...a simple otc anti-inflammatory (that I should have suggested yesterday! I forgot....since she has antibiotics and pain pills as of this morning I foprgot about ibu, but its that good ole ibupropen that will no doubt bring down the swelling within the next hour or so
THANKS to the suggestion of an alert and considerate Wahlgreen's pharmacist!

she still has that balloon-face look tonight and is very uncomfortable
and mom just cannot seem to find all the remedies and fixes fast enough! Betcha the swelling will come down in a few more minutes though....

what camel hair bikini?

wellll
we spent the whole morning in ER
abscess went straight for the eyeballs, one whole side face became swollen to the max during the night
6AM, ER....she had to have an IV of morphine and stronger more potent antiobiotics, then the cut and drain procedure I nearly cried....she did cry.
Four hours later, back home, with the advice to return for a room at the inn during the night if it should not begin to look better, if the swelling or her temp should go back up.
so...the moral to the story? don't let things get this far?
for starters, I'll also look for another dentist, as I believe the current one blipped on this, and should have done the drain thingie yesterday, and blew it by not even being aware of this tooth after fixing 7 or 8 smaller cavities during the past six months (my not-so-humble-opinion) and as two other people who know the scenario suggested, it should be an oral surgeon she sees on Monday if he is available, not the regular dentist. And it's been suggested that I file a complaint with the state against this dentist. But all that seems to accomplish is that more dentists withdraw from offering services to those covered under state-sponsored medical plans, such as the one we have, so I'm hesitant to rock any boats beyond voicing my thoughts directly to the dentist in question.
BTW, I welcome feedback on this issue.

I intend to have my say in this, no matter who must pick up the tab.

Well, as usual you are giving your choice some good thought and consideration. We too have had some negligent service (a lawyer) and through the counsel of an awesome lawyer (we hired him & he fired the negligent one) he counseled us to not go the bar but to make our issues known personally. Just babbling I suppose but I like your plan.

All of which brings me back to Sara. Please tell her that if I'd had my say she may not have gotten a camel ride but I'd have loved to give her a motorcycle ride. And to hang in there 'cause mom is taking care of business. Peace and courage and may Sara find rest and comfort.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Thanks for the babblenote
After a horrid morning, Sara is currently snoozing. I WAS snoozing for a few minutes until a sales phone call woke me! LOL, but I didn't chew the poor gal out, just said no thanks. I am a softie, so it's doubtful I'll do more than tell the dentist I think he screwed up. But the consequences are awful for Sara, so maybe she will want to let mr rottentoothy take a hike and go to another drilling specialist.

Hope she gets better soon Kacy. AND, QUIT BEATING YOURSELF UP!!!!  Carol is right, it is a valuable lesson about vulnerability 'cuz at this age, she thinks she is invincible....time to learn she is fragile.  Now I know where that poem about the silky spider web came from (or maybe not).  Anyhow.....hugs to you and have a better day tomorrow.  ....jo
