I work for Customer Service and Support for a large bank. I understand that lots of banking htings are confusing, but a large bulk of my calls are just to people who are just complete morons. There's no other word for them. So, I would like to rant about morons.

It is not my fault that you made 40 transactions in one day and you just don't know how you overdrew your account by 300 dollars. I will not refund your fees. You are a moron.

It is not my fault that you made a deposit of 10,000 dollars and expected it to be avaliable 10 minutes later. You are a moron.

It is not my fault that you made your deposit in an ATM WITHOUT an envelope/entering your check card (!!). You are a moron.

It is not my fault that one day, you decided to go to Morocco and spend 30,000 dollars, without notifying the bank, and as a result, your card was blocked for suspicious activity. You are a moron.

I'm dead serious.. this job makes me really believe that people like this should be locked away somewhere, and CERTAINLY shouldn't be allowed to deal with money.

PS--Although names/amounts/locations have been changed, I recieve many of these responses every single day! I'm not exaggerating one bit.

Well, as my girlfriend says, who happens to be a Lead at the local Dep of Trans station, 'There's a price for stupid.'  When she was still a clerk at the counters, she could generally read someone and know if they could take the joke. *chuckle*

But there's always a price for stupid.

ah.. Banking... great business except for the customers eh?  lol

I understand the frustration... I remember when I was starting out in sales and making proposals and bids to other engineers -- my dad told me -- remember -- it's your job to land the order for as much as you can get -- and it's his job to get the project for as little as he can.

All customers will chisel a little... some more than others -- they always act innocent about it too.  It's the same in every business sector.

Cause there's people involved.

sigh.

I'm sorry.

'Cause y'see? I'm one of those people who will hand a cashier wadded up paper money and a hand fulla change and say "here."

small smile?

Reb?

"All customers will chisel a little... some more than others -- they always act innocent about it too."

It ain't an act.

I am a moron!

(and sorry lovebug, I'll try to do better in the future)

make-up hugs?

The other day I saw this bumper sticker on a truck that says "I hate stupid people"

Buddy your stupid for putting it on your car!!!!

My sister worked at a store that sold video games, you would be amazed at the stupid questions she got and the gross abuse of the "Customer is always right" saying

Remember, treat someoen that works in retail with care.....most of them just make  minimum wage.

Yet ah! why should they know their fate?
Since sorrow never comes too late,
And happiness too swiftly flies.
Thought would destroy their paradise.
No more; where ignorance is bliss,
'Tis folly to be wise.

I used to work for a bank as a CSR as well. Do they still have the phones where you can put them on "mute" and not actual hold? Anyhow, we had those types of phones. On "mute" I could hear the customer but the customer couldn't hear me. Some customers were brutal and just faked a story just to get the fee(s) waived. However, I had some who were very honest. A very old woman called in and asked why we had deposited 15k in her account, teller had deposited it in the incorrect acct. She was honest and the bank sent her a thank you card....

I feel for you, but to be honest, banks, well, aren't.

I typically don't have too many issues with banks because I follow the guidelines... not out of any desire to be honest myself, though, but because of fear. The fees and etc. banks attach to darn near everything is just a legal form of highway robbery.
The mafia has less harsh penalties for being late or overdrawing than your average bank; all they'll do is break a leg or two, while if you overdraw your bank account by a dollar it could cost you hundred or more.

And, one of my biggest pet peeves, if you have a deposit going into your account the same day you have a debit that would overdraw you without the deposit, they charge the debit first, then tack on the fees, THEN process the credit. It's ridiculous.

Add to this gripe the fact that it is now legal for creditors to up your APR to 29% if you're more than 1 second late on a payment to any creditor. That means that if you pay your BofA Visa on Monday instead of Friday, any credit card you have can instantly have the rate jumped up to 29%. I'm not positive, but I don't think you'll know it until you get your next statement either.

Yet another issue I have is that if you log onto their website to pay your card on Thursday, when it's due on Friday, it won't actually be processed until the following Monday, thereby hiking up the fees some more.

Think about this - if you were to have mistakenly given the bank too much money, do you think it would tell you? No, it would probably force you to absolutely prove that the money was yours and that the mistake needed to be rectified. If you did that, you would probably get your money back... though I guarantee you they wouldn't refund you any interest they'd earned off of your money. But catch a $15,000 mistake in their favor? you get a 12 cent thank you card.

So, there may be stupid people out there, but some of them may just be taking the only revenge they're capable of on the corporate monster that loves to eat all their money. The only thing I can fault them for is not being able to separate the people who work for the bank with the bank.

Yeah, I know that banks suck, but is that your rep's fault? Not really. :P

Cloud, I do have the mute button, I don't use it a whole lot, but most people use it to 'tell' the customer exactly what they think!

I'm actually on my break at the time... just 2 more hours, blahhhh :P

Chris -- you also forgot to mention the lobbying by the banks to get legislation passed (by R's) to make it very difficult for average people to file bankruptcy on those credit cards.

"The only thing I can fault them for is not being able to separate the people who work for the bank with the bank."

That was my first CSR (with Bank of America) job and I remember coming home many of nights crying and taking it personally. Of course over the years things have changed, however, I still hated being yelled at.
