We are absolutely outraged at what is happening on the North Shore. Not only is it upsetting to our local First Nations bands, as this bird is an intricate part of their culture, and heritage and treated as sacrad, but whomever is doing it is dumping the dead birds on their land! http://vancouver.cbc.ca/regional/servlet/View?filename=bc_eagles20050203 This will upset the balance of nature as these bald eagles are not only from here, but the States, up North etc., and migrate here every year to a certain area of the North Shore. There is a 24/7 watch on now, but knowing the scum that did this, they will find a new dumping ground. |

it's not new, sharon. we've a long history of killing animals for only a part of their anatomy that is deemed commercially valuable. immediately coming to mind - elephant tusks. sad, indeed. egowhores.com - really love yourself. |

Though it isn't a new thing, as Christopher mentioned, the cruel slaughter of animals like this is a dastardly cowardly ignorant just-plain-stupid act. One can only hope the bloody fools will get caught and prosecuted, though poetice justice would be for them to get their faces ripped off by talons. Oh, the Birds movie... I know, that sounds bizarre, but that's the way I think it should end. Slapping them on the wrists and making them pay a huge fine...is not enough. |

That's for sure, Christopher...fewer things can make my blood boil hotter. I would place these people in a cage with whatever animals they were slaughtering....and coated with mayonnaise!!  |

I know this is not a new thing stripping birds and animals of their parts to sell, but not once have we had this problem in North Vancouver, in the over 30 years I lived here. The eagles are sacred to the indigenous peoples here on this shore, and have always been so respected. These people are feeling the pain of this series of killings. I sure would hate to think it turns out to be one of their own. We have a large Chinatown here for the size of the city, and I don't even go there anymore at all because of what they sell in their herbal apothecaries relating to this very subject. While I am at it and still so angry, I was too sick to go yesterday but we had a huge fur trading exhibition here in Vancouver, and talk about a city uproar! Now that was one huge protest. The fact that they rented them the space for that show in a fur-free city caused total outrage, and tons of protesters to take over the event. I haven't seen a fur coat or such in years here, but sure still see tons of leather shoes, purses, pants, jackets.  |

Kacy - I actually am almost there without trying to be honest. Like my fruit and veggies. You never know! Huan Yi - I hate to tell you this but not all aboriginal tribes are the same  Some do things that others don't approve of, just like us black, yellow, or white folks get our feathers ruffled. I can assure you the Squamish Band won't be having any of that art hanging in their homes.They use feathers as well in their native costumes but they are manufactured for the most part, or they use turkey quills that can be as long as 14 inches in length. I think one has to actually be honored enough to go on a "discovery" with aboriginal people to truly understand their love and respect for nature. Anyway this is about a current topic not to sidetrack, and I am glad they are on top of this to stop it. Anything that upsets the balance of nature to me is a definite, "no-no." Even all those geese here with their over-active rears have a reason |

 It is completely insane. It's nothing new, and nothing different than those ivory dealers who kill elephants for ivory tusks and teeth, rhinocerous horns for medicine, whatever. What can I say. It almost feels like it's been accepted as normal human behavior since it's been happening so long. I just wonder how the heck it ever became so.
