With all the latest talks about the U.S. led coalition in Iraq, and how Bremer says we didn't have enough troops there, how is it that noone seems to recall Turkey's promise to allow U.S. divisions to attack Iraq from the north for a generous aid package?

They get the package, then suddenly change their mind.  The military divisions waiting in Turkey had to be removed at the last moment and sent to Kuwait.  No northern campaign to clear militants while the southern campaign cleared militants.

With friends like that, who needs enemies?

Yeah ... like he said.  Turkey ... what a fowl, fowl country.

And if Turkey had kept its word, the troops that would have advanced from the north, along with the troops already advancing from the south, would have crushed the insurgents smack dab in the middle. They wouldn't have survived to cause the mayhem they are causing today.

What the hell does an ambassador know that generals on the ground don't?

I do have to agree about Turkey though.

Ah, it's Turkey's fault.

But wait, at least you admit there is a problem.

That's the first step.

Hmmm, what about listening to those generals again?

Heh...not laying it all at Turkey's doorstep, although there was a breach of contract there.  Bremer has noted several times that there wasn't enough 'boots on the ground', and there's a reason: no northern offensive through the Sunni Muslim zones we're currently having problems with.  Funny how noone wants to look at the Shia Muslim zones where there is very little aggression, and lots of economic stability.

Simple solution. Let's invade them, too. We can get them on Contracts of Mass Breachment, I should think.

(released 10 minutes ago by AP)

During a speech Tuesday at Michigan State University, he said his remarks had been somewhat distorted by the media.

"We certainly had enough (troops) going into Iraq, because we won the war in a very short three weeks," Bremer said.
..............................................

Distorted by the media??? What a radical thought!!!!!

If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can read it in English, thank a soldier.

I see, is this a nuanced thread?

Or are you flip flopping (again)?

And by that thinking, the Soviets won in Afghanistan.

Go ahead have a party.

LOL! Address your comment to Bremer, Brad. They are his words, not mine

We 'won' the war? Oh really?
I don't know what war that could be that anyone won....look at what is happening.
True, Saddam is not in office, but to say that we have won, or that the Iraqui people have won, is such a farce.
And as for the war on terrorism??? I'm afraid it has barely begun.

Fair enough, Mike.

So, you think it was silly too?

You can still have a party though.

Turkey's got an appalling human rights record and has conducted a genocidal campaign against the
Kurds. Why don't we take them to task?
Because they're a democracy?

Because they've really got weapons of mass destruction?
