Well, I knew this was gonna happen. Girlfriend had been fighting it, her youngest had been fighting it, and I haven't been sick at all in about 2 years. Now, I can feel the crud that's been going around starting in on me, so I'm sipping TheraFlu with a grimace of distaste. Why in the name of all that is good and sacred, why do medicines taste so godawfully nasty?!

So that we take care of ourselves and don't have to take it all the time.

I know where you are..been there last week! And don't try to get up too soon...if you don't rest until you are completely well, it comes back and bites you the in the butt.

Good sound advice, as long as the advice I'm giving myself right now: sip the hot toddy (scotch and honey) slowly and savor!

I've learned to add a package of sweet & low with the TheraFlu. As long as it stays real hot I can stand it.
GOOD LUCK, may it pass you quickly.

Careful, Ali.

Shortly after my first marriage, I came down with a really nasty, flat-on-your-back bug, and my new wife introduced me to the concept of hot toddies. In my case, it was peach flavored Brandy with honey and, having married very young, was only the second time in my life I imbibed alcohol. I don’t think it really made me feel any better, but it did make me care a whole lot less. The next morning, I discovered the only thing worse than being sick was being sick with a really miserable hangover.

Thirty years have passed since that incident and I have yet to drink Brandy again.

Hope you feel better soon, bud.

Thanks guys. As for the toddie, Ron, I made sure it was small, with about a tablespoon of honey. *grin* Was a cure-all my grandma introduced me to....well, it may not cure all, but after finishing it, you don't really care. Still tastes a whole lot better than store bought medicines. I can just see the wicked little grin on the apothecary's face as another creation goes out on the distribution truck, knowing with obscene glee that some poor sod is going to make a face like this as their tongue goes like that.

Man, I wish I had that job....

Echinacia and Vitamin C... mega doses at the first sign of a symptom -- and strait to bed for about 8-10 hours of sleep....

Keeps me out of harms way most of the time.

There is a homeopathic spray that is available too that has C, Echinacia, and Zinc that I use on the kids and it is very efficacious.... called Safecare available at Osco Drugs here -- don't know what the pharmacy chains are in Az though...

Be well

All this talk of hot toddy reminded me of a quote from Granny on the Beverly Hillbillies, regarding her "Rheumatiz Medicine":

"I've had rheumatiz for forty years and loved every minute of it!"

But moderation, O moderator!

Be well soon, you.

My parents use to tell me that a little whiskey or bourbon on sore teething baby gums usually helped calm the baby, get rid of the pain.  You think?

Then, to cut a cough, a little whiskey mixed with honey...i.e., a sharp toddie...another remedy...

and we wonder that there's alcohol in our drug-store over-the-counter meds?  Go figure...

Not only will it make the gums quit hurting, it'll put the little buggers right to sleep.

Grandma's whiskey and honey remedy reminded of my own grandma, many years ago. My sister and I had a little dog but couldn't keep him at home so the grandparents graciously agreed to keep him for us. That was all right because we did spend a lot of time with them anyway.

Well, the little guy once got a cold or something and developed a cough. Grandma, as grandmas did in those days, decided a little home remedy would be just the thing. She mixed him up a little saucer of whiskey and honey.

He liked it, lapped up the whole thing and wanted more. It cured the cough but also had probably predictable side effects. It was an interesting show, at least for a while. Later, the other, less desirable side effect began to set in and Grandma had a small mess to clean up.

The really interesting thing about the whole story came later. I swear that dog learned to fake a cough.

Thanks for the memory,
Pete

Well, I've found through the years that nothing cuts through clogged sluices quite like the scent of a hot toddie. Cradle that warm steaming mug and inhale till your eyes water. Sippin comes after...no sense in scaldin yer tongue then having that to worry about too.

Listen to me Ali, as I have had this flu like non-stop!  It bites you hard, and if you don't go with the flow and rest, but  instead you fight it, the thing keeps coming back with a vengence.  I adopted the "mind over matter" theory and landed back in bed 3 times now!  I am out of the woods finally, and believe this or not, waiting to be approved for a flu shot.  They won't give me one until I am "un-sick" for a minimum of at least 7 days, and that is usually when it hits me again, over and over within that 5 days after I think I am better.  So far - so good, so you take care of you - and that TheraFlu sucks! LOL

Personally, Ali, I think our chicken soup has been tainted!  I haven't seen or heard of so many sick people all at once as I have this year!

Actually, the flu is a differnt strain then in the flu shot this year. It also takes 2 weeks from the time you get the shot for it to take affect.  Although, the flu shot may have a differnt mutation in it this year, they say it should help a little againest the big flu that is knocking the nation.

Well, not sure if this is lucky or not, but the variant influenza strains and mutations floating around like asbestos missed me. Instead I got the crud, which is a combination of head and chest cold. Granted, this isn't that fun either, since I was born with chronic bronchitis. One perk of living in the desert though...low humidity, clean air.

For all those suffering with this flu thing~

Go to the doctor and get something called:

Tamaflu-I think that is how it is spelled.

Had my daughter feeling better within 2 days.

Alicat... it took a while for it to reach the 2500 miles to Pa, however, I think that your Theraflu has reached and invaded my humble abode.
Thanks..
lol

Cause in my dreams it's always there
The evil face that twists my mind
And brings me to despair.
