I heard some flaming idoit on the news yesterday and I wanted to get other ppls opinions on this.  He was talking about how we should celebrate this holiday for all the military ppl who have worked hard and even given their lives for USA.  He completely said "Don't worry about the police officers and firemen from 9/11 they can be celebrated some other time.  Now does that sound fair to you.  I was angry.  These men who gave there lives just as well or even more for the people in builds that fell to ruin. What is wrong with this picture?  Have we given up on loving people for there kind acts? Have we forgotten that this is the way that we want to be treated too.  I'm so lost and I never thought that I would hear that come from someones mouth and over the radio.

Hearing that was just as bad as hearing a little town in Oregon not wanting a Buddist temple cause of the whole 9/11 thing.  They didn't want the bad press. What are these people teaching children now a days?  Are these the ideas that our children are going to grow up clinging too?  I certainly hope not.  I picked up my son and turned off the radio.. Heartbroken...

Life goes on though.

I don't understand the Buddhist temple thing, but I always thought 'Memorial Day' was the day to remember those who were lost during times of war (admittedly it's sometimes called Decoration Day, but that's a distinction without a difference).

I don't think there was any malice in the suggestion, just perhaps poor phrasing or an attempt to retain holiday distinctions rather than, well, memorial feelings.

To follow on Brad's reply (I really hate to follow such an erudite fellow) I believe memorial Day is for all those military men and women who gave their lives for our country.

I believe 9/11 has become a "memorial" day of it's own.  Certainly nobody will ever forget those whose lives were sacrificed, civilians, Firefighters, and Police, that terrible day.
