Deficient education or laziness (or both!)?

One thing that really annoys me is awkward or slapdash grammar and chronic proof reading in newspapers.

Sure it can be funny.  From the leading article in our local paper this week:

"The success rate of accident reduction at these sites has been very pleasing and beyond all of our realms of possibilities"

and:

"Roger V, from the Royal Society for the Protection of Accidents, said news that more speed cameras were on the way should be welcomed."

Don't the people would claim prose as the currency of their daily trade care anymore?

From now on, ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put.

Mention of Winston reminds me of an anecdote (true) concerning his attendance at a pretentious dinner party one evening.

In his usual robust form he managed to antagonise one particularly haughty Lady who looked at him from her lofty height and exclaimed:

Mr Churchill!   If you were my husband Id poison your wine...

Churchill, cool as ever, riposted:

My dear lady, if you were my wife Id drink it!

Is it laziness or the emphasis on speed?

Or in our rejection of formalism, have we begun to believe that we can use telepathy to get what we mean across?

Don't you know? Can't you figure it out?

I don't know,
