It's been very gratifying the last few days to see so many people taking advantage of the new "Picture under your name" feature. I don't know how everyone else feels, but I think it adds a wonderful touch being "face to face" with the author of a work.

The new feature, however, was meant exactly for that purpose - letting us "see" the author. Obviously it makes the pages load a bit slower, and it also adds a bit more to our bandwidth costs. Well worth both, in my humble estimation. I do hope everyone realizes, though, that the purpose of the pictures is not for other types of images. No matter how cute a drawing, icon, or far-out image might be, it doesn't belong below your name if it's not your photo. Uploading drawings defeats the purpose of the new feature, adding time and cost without giving proportianate benefits.

There are lots and lots of cute pictures on the Internet, and we all know where to find them. We'd much prefer seeing you!

Me too, I just hope no one is scared by my picture...

I agree. I love the picture feature.  Such a wonderful opportunity should not be abused.

Well, speaking of pictures Ron. Where's yours huh?  I think it was a neat idea. It's nice to see the faces of the people you've been talking with.  hint, hint...

Actually, WhtDove, I had my old leisure suit picture posted when we first started testing the new software - but it made me feel like I should be reserving my posts for the Teen forum, so I took it down.

Trouble is I'm almost always on the working side of a camera and have darn few pictures of myself. This one is a bit more recent, but ya'll will just have to excuse the cowboy hat. It was taken in Vegas, around 1992, in one of those dress-up studioes. You should have seen my guns!

Ummm -- what about drawn/painted portraits that are true-to-life, if the author doesn't photograph well?     Personally, I look like hamburger in photos ...

LOL Ron!  I saw that picture in the software.
I saw you took it down. I am also on the taking side of the camera. So I don't have many either. The one that's up now, is probably 5 yrs old.

Your guns?  Dang, should have taken some pictures of them shooters too! hehe...

ps I wasn't laughing about your picture either, I was laughing at what you said up there.
Glad we finally get to see you cowboy!

I'm quite computer illiterate. So, exactly how do you post the pictures? I would like to put mine up.

I agree totally!!    It is so nice to see the face behind the poem and to know what our friends look like!

danni, go into the Members area (link at top of screen), then go into your Profile. Look for the "Upload" button, then simply read the directions. If they don't make sense to you (my directions often don't), feel free to email me.

ROTFL.... You really have to watch him, PFF.... He's been known to send some pretty bad pics of his friends to the WRONG places.....

I appreciate very much the new features ... makes this place even more comfortable ...   ... I regret though the limitation regarding photos and graphics ... a drawing can tell you more about a person than a picture will ... but you're the boss and I've learnt in my job to abide by the boss decisions even when I do not agree ... Now if I may add something, it would have been nice to get an email rather than just have the graphic discarded.

JTF, I apologize to you and all the others for not sending out email. When jboulder directly asked what the problem with his upload might be, my only answer was I didn't know - 'cause I couldn't readily tell what file he had uploaded.

It is a serious design flaw, but when I added this feature it simply never occurred to me I might have to match photo to name at the file level. In other words, I look in the photos directory and see a glob of bits and bytes with a cryptic filename and then have to determine who it belongs to. It can be done, but not easily or quickly.

In short, I didn't send out email because I wasn't sure who to send it to. Like I said - bad design. I'm working on a solution...
