Should toilet paper roll from the top or from the bottom?

There should be no debate. Definitely from the bottom! The only way - I think there's a rule somewhere - maybe it was one of the 11 Bill of Rights!

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'
Keep that Charmin Rollin'......
ON TOP!!!!!!

Y'all remember that question that was asked by our astute host? Who could you NEVER be with???
Well - Let's add this one - I could NEVER be with someone who rolls their Charmin from the bottom.....Nope....Not!!

It's gotta be from the top folks - If you can't control your Charmin, what else is there????

Please! This is a non-question! Even the manufacturer slyly dictates that the paper should roll from the top - that way the pattern is always showing!

Bottom pullers really suck.

Wanna know something horrible??? I change it back to the top..when I visit Mom & Dad....LOL (Never do that to friends etc....just Mom & Dad) You know what else, I think I may need some therapy now!! Just thinking about that is ridiculous! DARN!! And here I thought I was the SANE one in the family. :P

Don't worry Poet deVine - you have an ally! It must be the bottom - you definitely do not get more control from the top. If you rip it from the top it can keep on spinning - all over the floor. The bottom is tidier too - unobtrusive. Stuff patterns, that's just 'sly' commercialism!

NEVER buy anything but white TP! The other stuff has color chemicals in it that can cause irritation and is not as soluble as plain white! (I can't believe we're still talking about this! LOL)

When rolling from the bottom,
I find I use two sheets more,
Than I did when from the top,
I selected sheets then tore.

Now, two sheets is not a lot,
When there are so many more,
But look at how many you've bought,
Over a lifetime from the store.

There is, too, another question,
When considering bottom or top.
Top rolls in the forward direction,
And, hence is much easier to stop.

And if you roll it in reverse,
And then begin to think likewise,
I don't mean to sound perverse,
But you'll fill up to your eyes.

Score 1 more for Top :-)

That's the plan
if I can do it
anyone can!

Can! Can!
that's the place
roll from the bottom
to wipe your..face!

Sally - You are perfectly normal! Trust me. Now... when you start changing the rolls in the public restrooms.... well, trust me.... THAT is when you need help. (psst, I can send you the name of my therapist. He's wonderful, and I've come a long way. I've learned to not use public restrooms!)

I myself can take it either way, but since my other half believes it belongs on the top that's where it goes unless I am looking for trouble, then I might just forget a few times, and put it on the other way. I tell you it's fun to put it on backwards at other peoples houses that don't leave enough on the roll for company. The ultimate payback, cause you know their gonna be cursing you later. I must be in an evil mood right now, coming up with all these rotten idea's. Truely I always try and remember that most people like it on top. The rest are an exception to the rule.

I feel for Christopher, he must live in hillbilly sticks Arkansas - he don't know what TP is!!! I sent you all my X-tra corn cobs Chris! Check your E-mail! MY VOTE IS FOR THE TOP! I nearly fell off the stool once, bending over trying to find the damn end the other way! (Damn thing was hiding from me!) I swear I spun that thing around 100 times and never found it! Don't ever try to look up underneath something while sitting on the stool!!

Well if that's what it's used for, then I have to vote for the bottom feeders. Granted, it may be a little harder to find at times, but hey, you're POETS, what's a little challenge? (besides, if I have it roll from the top, my kitty-cats have a tendancy to roll it around the house... in one looooonnngggg string!)

Ok enough of this.

If toilet papers white or plain
How you hang it's all the same
But if you prefer a design to see
Top's is the only way to be.

I really don't care one way or the other. As long as I don't have to scream from the bathroom for someone to bring a new roll in!

I am stunned.
Now, I realize that alley's are natural depositories for waste paper, but this has gone critical.

I gotta have it from the top so I can bat at it when I feel so inclined. If I try this from the other side, I tend to scrape my claws on the tile, making that little high-pitched, spine-chilling, nails on shale noise. Makes my fur stand on end.

I have another question for you bottom feeders.... Do you do the same thing with paper towels??? You know, they design those things to roll off the top and my soon to be X INSISTS on putting it on upside down. (He's a bottom feeder too..:P :P)

LOL!!! I am laughing so hard I'm nearly crying!!! My vote: TOP!!!!!! You bottom feeders are very odd, I say. I may be able to somewhat tolerate TP upside down (although it bugs the heck out of me), but defintely not paper towels!! If you bottom people do that backwards too I'll be forced to come to each and every one of your houses and put it back right!!!

OK, umm..maybe I need to talk to my shrink about this...*Grins*

Paper towels? TP? They're NOT the same? OMG - what about Saran Wrap???? Not it too!!!

Hint for Heloise...

Dear Heloise, my helpful friend,
I have a new wonderful hint.
When you need TP and you are out,
(caused by a bottom feeder, no doubt).

You can skip a day or three,
Let things harden, wait and see.
You'll recover and feel much better,
By switching to a Black and Decker.

I start with hundred grit, no more,
To work it down til I get sore.
For finishing work, I get the rest,
With 220 grit, which works the best.

All of this work can be eschewed,
If from the top you roll then use.
But if you prefer to roll from bottom,
Use Black & Decker, if you got 'em.

Let's put it like this.. Even when my husband puts toliet paper back on the roll, (yes, my husband actually does that, amazed?)
We are both top dispensing people..
So that would be two more.. One for Ladycat and one for Darquewing.
For all of you bottom dispensing people, put the paper down and move away from the toliet.. I will show you how to do it the right way..
Mental note, don't use the recycled stuff unless you want to feel like you are wiping with tree bark, which in some cases would be better than that recycled stuff..
One other thing, I just wanted to know what kind of drugs that Alicat is using? You can never miss batting at the toliet paper.. You are an out of practice Cat and you are going back to Bad Kitty training school..

Love,

On behalf of all Alley lurkers, thank you for brining this issue to our forum. Its about time we started dealing with these differences! How else are we to become tolerant of one another if we don't talk about these things in an open, honest, caring manner?

I've been reading the posts carefully, analyzing every nuance for hidden meanings, and from this careful study, I've been able to conclude that many of the "bottom feeders" want to reform and come over to our side. You have done the world a wonderful service, Ms. elvira - thank you.

My dear sweet lil Poet deVine,
You are a rebel out of your time.
Tis clear, my dear,
You harken to when,
Perfume was a must, even for men.

Now in those dark, paperless days,
Bottom or top or even sideways,
Twas rare back there,
To have paper at all,
To use for 'that' in the powder room stall.

You rue the rebellious lines you penned.
But we forgive you, we welcome you in.
You're here my dear
No cause to rebel,
Convert to the top! We'll treat you well.

(private note for elvira - DO NOT READ) psst, elvira... I think deVine bought my pretty prose. She'll be sure to turn traitor to her fellow bottom feeders. Get ready to read her abdication from the bottom feeding clan. She'll be joining our group any minute now.... any minute..... get ready to change the score... any minute....

It is a commonly held professional opinion, that those who roll their T.P. from the top are in reality suffering from severe mental disorders, stemming from poor toilet training as children. They are insecure and forced to make themselves feel better by browbeating others. The "toppness" of their toilet behavior is simply a defensive measure used to reassure themselves that they are not as inferior as they really are. Their Id is in conflict with their Ego, resulting in poor sanitary habits. We should really feel sorry for them and put a pool together to fund their therapy.

I shall never surrender to the dark forces!
All rise and sing the "Battle Hymn of the Bottom Feeders" :

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the roll
It is neatly tucked behind, so it's easier to dole
Let us roll to make wipes easier
Let us roll to make more sense
Our bottoms roll along!
Glory, glory bottom feeders
Glory, glory bottom feeders
Glory, glory bottom feeders
Keep our bottoms free!

THE TP SOLUTION HAS BEEN FOUND!!

In an obscure restaurant in Yarmouthport, Cape Cod...... In the Men's Room - I understand that men don't choose to have to "think" about this dilemma.....
It's really quite simple, folks - I saw it for myself - ....There were two rolls on the wall - one over, one under.... and one roll sitting on the solitary commode - for the side-winders.........
(I really think it's scary - I'm getting neurotic - looking everywhere I go at the toilet paper - and how it's rolled... It's your fault, elvira)

Severn.. Devine... I will stand for it no longer.. Top Feeders shall unite against you horrid bottome feeders.. We shall overcome.. Long John.. Stand up to them.. Be a man.. Have you no shame.. Running to them at the drop of a hat.. Come back top feeders need you.. Fight for us and our rights.. We will no longer get treated this way by the likes of DeVine and Severn..
This fight will not end like this..

Elvira - it isn't over yet!!!
And as for you Ladycat - well! I (magnanimously) forgive your ignorance, one day you'll understand....Bottomfeeders don't promote war or battle, no: we are a peace loving clan, who bear the world's (the top feeders section of it anyway) ignorance, heavily on our shoulders. Join us friend, and revel in the joys of bottom feeding!!!!!

Looking this way then that,
Severn? or LadyCat?
I've been so totally confused,
Not one sheet have I used.

Please, oh please help me here,
Bottom or top is no longer clear.
Bottom or top or even sideways,
I haven't gone in the past 3 days!

I guess I no longer need TP 'cause I have just read this entire thread and I've laughed my A** off

(How's that for neutrality?)

Bottom Feeders....Top Feeders I don't really care as long as the job gets done though from the top is not nearly as messy as the bottom. Btw....white T.P. is the only way to go. The colored and patterned stuff can cause rectal cancer according to our esteemed? surgeon general.

Well, I don't quite remember where I heard this... think it was some comedy program on BBC2 years ago.

The British Standards Institute have introduced a new wiping method, using 5 sheets of toilet paper. The new method consists of 5 strokes, one per sheet. 1 up, 1 down, 1 left, 1 right and 1 to polish.

Hmmm a little question for Nan....
having just read this:

"In an obscure restaurant in Yarmouthport, Cape Cod...... In the Men's Room - I understand that men don't choose to have to "think" about this dilemma..... It's really quite simple, folks - I saw it for myself - ...."

My one question is, WHAT were you doing in the MEN'S room in an obscure resteraunt anywhere *8)

I think that I have figured it out.. What you have ot do is take the toilet paper off of the roller and turn it sideways and tear it from either left or right side.. Would that then start another conflict? Which to choose? Left or Right? I think that I have now confused myself..

I give!!!

love,
Lady

Well now, Eric -
...um...IRonic as it seems, I did actually have an escort who had the same vested interest as I - He actually was the sleuth who uncovered the condition of the rolls... and simply invited me into the Men's room to bare WitNess....

I clawed my way through,
only to confess,
I'm a bottom feeder too.

Hey, can I borrow that anthem? It's great!

Here it is in 2012 and I had the same question going on Facebook, being a top feeder and "always right" I challenged everyone to say what was the right way, top or bottom feeder.  Heck all I had to do was come here and see all you brainiacs discussing the topic to find the answer.

I would like to know what kind of man invited you into a men's washroom too Nan?  I have gone in them at concerts out of sheer necessity, but no one ever invited me in - lucky you! LOL
