Aftermath

Over Earth's blue-green surface
through clouds of dense cotton
I glide

festooned with bright lights
blinking red, blinking green
am I

my tough metal skin
stands up to the weather
on high

my powerful engines
angle me up
to the sky

when I tragically plummet to Earth
the whole world
wonders why

the innocence carried within me
this day
had to die

(big hugggssssss) This is so very sad, sweet friend, my heart goes out to you and I pray that somehow we can all harmonize to one another and restore innocence while there is still time! (kiss on cheek) We all love you so much, sweet friend, my heart cries out to yours! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Soooo very right..... Lyra, and it wasn't just the innocence within that metal skin that met a tragic end that day.... Every one of us who saw, every one of us who felt, every one of us who lost someone we love... or knew of someone who lost.... Our innocence (what was left of it) left.  Lets hope Noah is right and we can repair and heal.... but we will NEVER forget.

Love, Light and Peace,
Sherry

Cherish the good memories past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow.
But above all... be kind to yourself today.

This could be about any crash, any loss.  But that day did change my life and I never realize it more than when I see a simple picture of a plane.  Your poem...perfect.

And we are still wondering, in horror, as to why certain things happen, and why we cannot put our hand to righting all wrongs...

As a chief in the aviation side of the USN, I can truly understand these words on the technical side, as a human being, I can understand the tradegy included. Well done.

Love this one, Lyra. But I believe that innocence never dies. It's just covered up with dirt on our windows. I recommend a little Glass Wax and a clean beautiful flowered cotton towel.

Thanks Duncan...I actually wrote this one about the plane which crashed in Queens, NY about a month after the Sept. 11 disaster, but when I read it again, I realized that it could be about any plane crash and I had a feeling that most people would interpret it to be about Sept. 11, which of course, is only logical......

Thanks so much for your reply, Karilea...
I don't think we will ever be able to comprehend evil, but I think that it exists only so that we can recognize good...which is the flip side of evil...
I just feel so sorry for those who have to make that ultimate sacrifice ~hugs~

Thanks JCP...I wondered if I hadn't posted it with the picture of the airplane, would anyone have realized that the poem was about an airplane crash....

Thanks Newell...but I must respectfully disagree with you...
On Sept. 11, human innocence was shredded

Thanks so much for your reply, Martie...
When I wrote this poem, I BECAME the airplane.
I have always wondered what it would feel like to fly...but plane crashes terrify me...so, I thought I would try to imagine what it felt like to be an airplane which was crashing...
