I am dedicating my 2500th post to the memory of my first husband who passed away on May 22, 1999
we had been married for 34 years

I Love You and I Always Will

When they told me you were gone
I couldn't stop the tears
we'd had no last goodbye
after all our tender years

but your spirit was still here
and when you heard my cry
you opened up your eyes
just once more before you died

"I love you" you said "and I always will"

frozen in the grips of death
your life so slowly drained
from your body, once so strong
now weakened with such pain

as I held you in my arms
I felt your spirit leave
the pain wracked look you'd worn for months
became one of relief

I know you still watch over me
your wisdom guides my way
although I'm once again in love
you're with me every day

you'll forever be a part of me
and I will never forget
that one last sacred moment
when you returned from death

to comfort me in sorrow
you used your one last breath
to say
"I love you and I always will"

Thanks so much, Michael...I have had 2 wonderful husbands, so I guess fortune has been kind to me in that arena...but I never ever thought I would be going through the nightmare I am living thru right now...especially after having gone thru it with my first husband and then losing my son a year later.....so, I guess we all get some good and some bad in our lives and in the end, it probably balances out somehow.
But wouldn't it be nice if we could just erase some of the bad times and make them all good again
Thanks for the congrats! ~hugs~

Thank you so much, Martie.  I am very lucky to have had his love for so long and then double lucky to have found David 13 months later.....I don't know where I would be now if not for David.....he is so kind and so good and he understands perfectly about my love for my first husband....

Lyra, you have such a loving heart. What a beautiful poem. I still love a man that I have not seen in 25years. I think real love never goes away, it gets shifted a little to make room for new but never leaves.
I hope your health will improve soon.
Peace

Lyra~ Your writing is so profound and full of love, often I am lost for words while wiping away a tear.  Your poetry runs deep as does the love you express.

Many many hugs today and always~

Thirty-four years is a long time, Lyra...there was a lot of love and devotion from you to him and back again, that is so evident...and what is most evident, is that there still is....

thank you for this...it shows us that you are indeed made of the right stuff...and that you are a Keeper...

Sandra...thanks so much for your reply...
I most certainly agree with you...
real love never dies...and I also think that a woman will always continue to love the father of her children.

Oh Lyra, tears, this is so so beautiful, How heartfelt this is, and you know I do understand. This is the most beautiful tribute to your first husband and I am so happy that you were there and were able to hold him and say goodbye, that is so important. I hope you are doing well. I was gone for awhile, so busy, and I have been missing reading all these lovely poems. God bless you, and congratulations on your 2500 posts. love, floria
