Rain On The Roof

What is it about the sound of raindrops on the roof?
the rhythmic pitter-patter when skies are grey
and the day looks sad

what is it about that sound, that calls up long forgotten memories?
of roseate happy times and grey sad ones
and the splash of droplets on the window
blown by an angry gale

What is it about that simple sound
that feels like a big warm hug
on a cold windy day?

Why does the sound of rain on the roof
make me feel safe and loved?
connected to the world
in a way I cannot explain with words
as if I were woven into a tapestry of humanity
a small fragment
a tiny part of a great big universe

raindrops fall on rooftops
wherever God sees fit to shed her tears
and cry for all the world's sorrows

and when God cries
I feel her big warm hug
telling me
that everything will be okay
that is what I love
about the sound of
raindrops on the roof

Thanks so much, Sue...
I also love rainy days and gloomy, dreary ones...much better than the bright sunny ones.
Its as if the dreary days have "soul"
and everything looks prettier when wet...all of the colors deepen....and I especially love that sound of raindrops on the roof.

Precisely!!  All we have to do is listen!
You writing is so sensitive and filled with tender emotion.
The picture was an added bonus, is that your house?

Hugs to you Lyra~

(smiles) YAY!!! I love the rain so much too for the same reason, sweet friend, because I feel it is Her emotions come out and Her tears will purify us all and keep us safe and warm in joy! (kiss on cheek) This is a symphony of delight, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Lyra,
what it is about you and me and rain on the roof. This is charming and makes me want to go and dance in the rain which is beating outside my window.

How well you return me to my days in Michigan, when "everything turns darker in color"...Michigan is wonderfully full of trees...and I remember how blessedly peaceful I felt in a Michigan rain...

Madame, I think you have found something that everyone loves and expressed it so well.

Nothing goes better with rain on the roof than a warm fire, a glass of red and a good friend

Dee

I wish you every happiness and may you always have the best of the good things in life.     a brand

Hello Madame Chipmunk

How very well I think we all can relate to your wonderful words.  Was that picture taken at your home and if so I bet you do a lot of your writing at that lovely table? I know I would - what a beautiful place!

Take care.....Sue

I totally relate to this...yes...rain on the
roof can be sooooo sooothing....Yet,  so
exasperating when you have small children
running around the house....aching to get
outside...

Thank You Lyra...Hugs!

Thanks Noah...I think that there is something poetic about a rainy day...
Most people love the bright sunny ones, but most of the poets I have met, seem to love the rain and also dark dreary days...
Maybe these kinds of days are more introspective...

Thanks Victoria...I agree with you...
The best thing about staying in bed on a rainy day is that no one can say "why aren't you outside, enjoying the beautiful weather?"
The truth is you are inside...enjoying the cozy rainstorm.

Thanks Keth...Like I said to Noah(see above) I think its a poet thing....
We probably think better when the sun doesn't shine brightly in our eyes...
rainy days are so much more introspective than sunny ones....

Thanks so much, Barry....I agree with you about the small children...thats why we always had a big supply of kids video tapes for rainy days...and I guess I was lucky because, like myself...my kids also always loved rainy days...they always found something to keep them busy.

Lyra,
Whenever it rained I headed straight for the attic to sleep. Didn't God tell you the rythm of music makes you dance and the rythm of rain sooths the soul. She told me...
BTW, I love it.

Thanks so much for your reply, Martin...
I agree with you, but I don't think that the roof has to be tin...
Actually our living room has a cathedral ceiling with skylights and the rain on that roof is so very soothing...and I love the way it looks when it splashes down on the skylights....
