Miracle In A Jar

They call it the fountain of youth
a big advertising promo
is it just hype
or is it the truth

I figured I didn't have much to lose
I thought I'd give it a shot
just a few tiny lines beneath my eyes
just a few, not even a lot

so I bought the stuff in the little red box
read the instructions folded within
it said "contains glycolic acid...
gently peels your skin"

"in three weeks, you'll see a big difference
those tiny lines won't show"
so I put the cream on my face
thinking I'd give it a go

the first night that I used it
my face began to sting
I thought "my skin is peeling,
so this burning, stinging feeling
must be a normal thing"

each night that I used it
the sting grew worse and worse
when it finally made my eyes water
I began to swear and curse

but I gave it three weeks to see the results
and my face looked like it was burned by the sun
the lobster complexion it gave me
was something less than fun

I finally stopped the torture
and the redness went away
but I'll not use glycolic acid
and still haven't until this day

I still have those lines beneath my eyes
despite the cream that burned
but I've actually learned to like them
each one of those lines was well earned

maybe there is a miracle here
but it isn't the cream within
I'd learned an important lesson
that beauty is deeper than skin

(smiles) That is so very true, sweet friend, and you are a woman of true beauty, for you always give such compassion and love from the outside just as inside you always have so much love to share! (kiss on cheek) God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Hi Lyra. Well this is a good message, hiding in a humorous poem. I tried the renova cream and it made my forehead peel and flake for weeks. Yuck. Never mind,I will live with the lines.
Hope you are feeling well.

Thanks Sandra,  I think thats the same stuff I used...and I too, would rather have the lines than the burning, peeling and teary eyes...
Thanks for asking about my health...I am not feeling too terrible...at least not as bad as everyone said I would.

Thanks Victoria...I guess I've gotten too old to suffer for beauty...
If something burns or peels, I just stop using it.
One time I got suckered into buying some thigh cream to get rid of my cellulite...
Now that was a BIG waste of money!

You know it, I like those little crows feet that fan out around my eyes....
I've earned them by sharing my smile!
And that aint all bad!
Along the same lines it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile!!
It's true, the eyes have it!!!
No need to torture ourselves, so stop it already!!!
Hugs Lyra~

Thanks, Lori.....I have already stopped.
I only use beauty products that FEEL good...
My mother always used to say that "it hurts to be beautiful"
I say that it shouldn't hurt to be beautiful because beauty comes from the soul not the skin.
~lots of hugs~

I just have to laught... not at you dear Lyra,  at all of us women who at some time in their lives have tried to erase the beauty that only comes with grace and age.  I think my grandmother is one of the most beautiful women in the world.  It is not because of the wrinkles and worry lines that she doesn't have but the ones that she does.... each one reminding me of how much she cares for us.

Water colors run in the rain,
and oil painting fades over time,
and in each case the view stays the same
because it's only surface, not inside.

What a beautiful thing change can be.. it is our history and our future.

Love, Light and Peace,
Sherry

Cherish the good memories past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow.
But above all... be kind to yourself today.

Looks like everything comes with a price...one things for sure...none of us are getting any younger...even if those miracle products make us think we look younger...James

ROFL... I love this, Madame! *S* I could just picture you hoping... and hoping... and hoping that the jar's contents would bring you more than pain. *G* You've told a wise lesson with great humor... well done!

That's that part of aging gracefully that makes us say "ouch"...there are no shortcuts....

you left behind wrinkles of smiles with this one, little Lady....

Hah! I loved the poem. I don't have your stick-to-it spirit. I would've washed it off the minute it started stinging.  Anyhow, I inherited Indian wrinkles and I'd have to layer it on with a shovel to do any good.

Thanks so much, Suthern...I didn't really think it was funny when it happened, but that was a few years ago, and much water has gone under the bridge since then.  Things that I used to take very seriously, I now consider small stuff...like the lines on my face...and even the burning and redness.

Thanks Karilea...My mother always said "it hurts to be beautiful", but I have since learned that the hurt isn't worth it and beauty is much deeper than skin.
