You would not want the stars to fade away
To sprinkle not again the velvet sky
Nor wish the sun not greet each dawning day
To radiate its brilliance from on high.
You would not want the tears to always flow
From heaviness of heart from missing you
Unable to enjoy the wondrous show
Of life unfolding endlessly anew.
Your wish would be that I would carry on
To somehow find the wings to rise above
The pressing clouds of gray since you’ve been gone
And revel in your legacy of love.

To you no greater honor can I give
Than on transcendent wings again to live.

Thanks, Noah! I love you too! Nan taught me everything I know about sonnets! She got me hooked on them, actually. That's just about all I ever write...well, I mean all I ever used to write. Haven't written anything at all for over 3 months. YIKES!!! Thanks again, sweetie!

A legacy of love is one of the greatest gifts anyone can give another. This was a beauty to read. And don't worry about not writing, trust me, it ALWAYS comes back. You're very gifted.

Brilliantly composed Denise. What a beautiful sonnet. Such an inspirational conclusion. You've got me a little teary-eyed with this one ... sigh ... lovely sentiments.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Those lines are more exquisite and beautiful than I have words for....and touch me in places deep. This ones going in my treasure chest..thank you Poetess Denise(sonnet sweetheart)

Of all the things in me I could never be,
of the true I kept hidden from view,
the best parts of my heart ...
were the ones touched by you.

Thank you sky, Kit, Nan, Janet Marie, Marge, Victoria and Kris, so much for your awesome replies! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Actually, Nan, I pushed the limits last night, I posted THREE!!! This one is for you and the Cape Cod Crew!
/pip/Forum58/HTML/002751.html

Janet, of course I missed you!

When I wrote this I was actually heaving and sobbing terribly and when I re-read it I usually end up in a teary condition, so I have to be sure to have plenty of tissues on hand! This was my "letting go" of my Dad and the associated grieving process (just about 3 years) after he passed away. I guess you could say it's my heart to his heart or more likely it could even be his heart to my heart. I had to finally let go of the pain to enjoy the memories of him and also to be able to be what I should be to my family, as he would have wanted. I'm glad it touched you!

Thanks again, everyone!

such a treasure...

Happy New Year Poetess Denise.

Will the wind remember the names it has blown in the past?
With this crutch, its old age and wisdom, it whispers no ... this will be the last.

Thank you, Janet! It really means a lot that a poem that I wrote could touch someone as deeply as this one did you. It makes me want to keep writing!
