For My Grandaughter

May your triumphs be many
and your problems be few
may laughter and sunshine
always rain down on you

may the sweetest of dreams
every night, fill your head
while angels of love
keep watch round your bed

may you always be granted
whatever you need
and with lightness of heart
go about your good deeds

may your lessons in school
be fulfilling and fun
with time left for frolicking
in the warm sun

may you grow to be strong
and joyful and smart
and someday to find
a most loving sweetheart

may you feel the joy
of a new baby's kiss
but most of all
I hope you don't miss

the love of that someone
so special and true
the love of a grandaughter
just like you

Ah well you have to know I am going to jump on this and "ahhhh" it to bits.  Not only was that the cutest picture I ever read, but...being a Gramma and loving this job, I can't think of a thing I could wish worth more, than giving my grandaughter someone to love as much as I love her.  Did I love this poem you bet I did, big time! This causes a tickle in my heart!

Sharon...thanks so much for that grandmotherly reply...yes...isn't grandmotherhood the best thing in the world?
I think its even more fun than parenthood because you get to spoil them and then you get to send them home for someone else to take care of ......and of course, you get to love them an awful lot! ~hugs~

A perfect gift for the up and coming Easter basket, on beautiful paper, rolled up and tied with a yellow ribbon, placed in her basket...then later framed...

what a lovely gift, Chipmunk!  You leave the best smiles!

Lyra my dearest friend, this is utterly utterly wonderful, yes absolutely perfect all the delights with none of the bad stuff. Not that it seems likely I’ll ever get the chance to be one, Krissy says there’s plenty of time, Paul doesn’t fancy the idea at all, and Emma says that reproducing is very low down on her priorities and anyway she can’t afford one. I have suggested that they owe it to me to make me a grandma but not one of them seems inclined. Oh well I get to share, even if it is vicariously, the joy via beauties like this.

This is incredibly beautiful and I love it utterly utterly. Brilliantly done

Love and warm stuff

Munk-Ster Ghandi:
it's sort of like a wonderful second life, isn't it?  Watching our blood grow again.
Your poem so much reminded me of a wonderful song by Joan Baez:
Forever Young   which has some of the best advice (like yours),
and never feels to heat up the heart with warm wishes (like yours!).

I can bet (if i was a betting man: the whole farm!), that you are one of the most
caring loving grandma's yet.  It's a sacred job, and one that MUST be taken
seriously...on the other hand.....its a job i wouldn't trade for anything (being a
grandfather that is!)  *smiles*
~have a hugg~!   you deserve it!

Thanks Larry...I wrote that for her last birthday and she really liked it.
She tells everyone at school that her grandma is a poet.

What a lovely thought, Karilea...its too bad that we don't celebrate Easter...and she already has the poem, it was for her last birthday......presented to her....all rolled up and tied with a pretty ribbon.
I don't know whether her mom framed it or not. Maybe we should start celebrating Easter around here....I was always jealous of the kids who got to have Easter baskets...and Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies.  All I ever got was to have a Passover seder with chicken soup and matzoh balls. Thanks for your reply.     ~hugs~

Floria...thank you so much...but right now, I am not even supposed to be near any of my grandkids because they go to school and therefore are exposed to all sorts of communicable diseases...and my blood counts are down because of the chemo.  I miss all of them terribly, and can't wait to see them again.

Marsha, my sweet friend from across the big pond....It was so nice to talk to you this afternoon.
I bet that your kids will eventually change their minds about having kids.
Most people in their generation seem to get married and have their kids later than we did.
If not, you can always share my grandchildren....I'm sure that they wouldn't mind having another grandma...especially one with such a sweet British accent!

lots of huggggs~

Hey Jeff...you are not old enough to be a grandpa!
thanks for that magnanimous reply.
I recently heard the Joan Baez song to which you referred and it made me wonder if she had read my poem before she wrote it.

I love being a grandma, but wish I could spend more time with my grandkids....
Since I have been doing chemo, I am supposed to stay away from schoolkids....and also we have been so busy running to Ann Arbor every weekday for radiation that I feel like my whole life is on hold right now.

You are the second person who has told me to publish this poem....a friend of mine also said it....
But, I have no idea how to go about getting a poem published...
Maybe someday.....
