Storyville

Your heart stops at the threshold
every time you come in,
letting your body act in all its wanton ways,
giving and taking - lustily consuming me
in all the myriad ways of my existence -
yet not sharing the essence
by which we truly know one another.
Love sits at the threshold  -
your eyes laugh with the lie in your words,
but I accept it, all of it,
and breathe deeply of the sin that we share.

Storyville was the notorious red-light district of New Orleans, many, many moons ago.

BRAVO!!! Oh my gosh, last year I took a class on The History Of Jazz, and in the times of Jelly Roll Morton and before Miles Davis became popular, I learned a lot about Storyville and the prostitution and crime going all around the city quarters! (big hugggsssss) This is a powerful reflection on history, sweet friend, this place may now be renovated, but the stories will always be remembered there, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet James, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Hmmmm! Could your Storyville be an expression of love in itself? At least by one partner? A love gift of flesh? Just a thought.

Hmmmmmm, it is thought provoking on that threshold!  Very nice way of saying what you have come to accept!  How I know the keeping to the rhythm of the feelings you write of.

I enjoy your poetry very much jimmy~
