Well, I have to confess - Bridget Shenachie made me do it.  She started writing Limericks in the Workshop, and it's just a little contagious... Feel free to add to the melee, folks...  Here are some of my contributions...

The Irish are said to have luck
By lightening they'll never be struck
They've fortune indeed
A very rare breed
Somehow they just don't run amuck!!

Words penned out upon the prairie
A gift from a magic faerie
Her quill dipped in ink
Reminds us to think
And leaves us all feeling merry

There once was a Swede who wore green
Donned shamrocks on March seventeen
But try as she might
Could not get it right
She'll ne'er be an Irish colleen...

The Passion of fine poetry
Abounds here I'm sure you'll agree
Fine words on the spill
A-musing our quill
The finest I hereby decree...

A Simile is as easy as pie, but a metaphor is a piece of cake ~*~ Nancy Ness

Nan, these are wonderful! And so are you!

There once was a pretty girl, Nan
She struck up an Irish green band
As music did play I got drunker that day
And somehow I got out of hand.

I think, but I can't remember, LOL...

Limericks I can't seem to write
Whatever I type just seems trite
So... HAPPY ST. PADDY'S DAY
Will be all that I say
I'll toast to you both day and night.

Loved this, Nan. *S*

The Sweed we all know as Nan,
couldn't even boil water in a pan.
dining out she was seen,
got tomain on the cuisine,
so today she looks kind of green.

A sweet Irish lassie named Erin
Had features so perfectly flawless.
Men would hide out of sight
Near her window at night
For a chance to see Erin go bra-less!

Who envisioned a passionate plan,
From the pages of blue,
Grew the Passion he knew,
And today, I'm his number one fan!

An amazing great poet named Nan
Was extremely adept with the pan (er pen... geesh)
Here words would inspire ush (er, us... damn)
'Bout the luck of the Irish
And not only that, they weren't too long and were easy to understand.

Her rhyming free verse
Is not prone to terse

Dear Nan,

Taking the blame does me proud.
I’m so glad you invited the crowd.
Limericks with merit
You’re so kind to share it.
You’ve left me laughing out loud!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone!

St patricks day is almost here
At the pub I’ll be drinking green beer
I’ll only have one
Okay, five would be fun
Out of slightly red eyes I will peer

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

A shamrock is a three within one,
Of some Irish myths somehow begun
By St. Patrick, who'd take
The whole island from snakes,
The analogy, second to none!

Is that breakfast or will it be lunch?

In two weeks I'll be bunking with Nan,
I suppose she'll hand me her frying pan,
saying, "You'll have to cook for yourself,
there's lots of cans on the shelf,
and make some for me, hey, there's a good plan!:

You're planning on feeding us skunk?
Honestly, I've never, ever heard such bunk.
If you're going to be catching it yourself,
make sure you sleep in your own bunk!

Supposedly, we'll wait and see,
But plans are made, this Dor ajar,
The groom and his sweet bride to be
Will come to sup some brunch, the stars
Within their eyes will shine, and I
Will make some omelettes and try
To offer hospitality.
They should be here!
I'll wait and see!

Kind of cozy, brunch for three,
no wonder they didn't invite me!

some pics he did send
of his Love which won't end
and we talked of the Scrabble, our games

which were spelled out for us on a board
since our humor and hearts we'd afford,
while the kid danced on tables
and all we were able
to do was to LAUGH! our reward!!!!

There once was a teacher in green
the kids all thought her SO mean
what they didn't re'lize
to their daunted surprise
Nan knew more words than they ever seen

But her bug kill'n pal was the best
So Nan told him she had a request
'Deer penned a few lines
and blew a few minds
using meter of pure anapest

Soft-soft-hard is the beat that will fit
Or so I heard clearly from Kit
It helps if you're funny
and she is for my money
'Cause Kit really knows her, uh, stuff.

But we can't ignore the diverse
Lest we make our sweet Dori perverse
She writes poems so magic,
both happy and tragic,
and her limericks in … free verse?

There once were some poets kind-hearted,
going to regions t'were best left uncharted,
Their secrets I knew,
I'm talking 'bout YOU,
So you're better not getting me started.

RON!!!!!

that... THAT was incredible!!!!

you're kidding, right??? LOL

you mean you REALLY think
i write limericks in free verse!!??
that's my claim to fame!
confuse 'em quick with free verse!
then write something really SHORT
that rhymes!!.... it's taken me a long
time to get to this place....
LOL....hmmm... and all that other
stuff you said..
good grief!!
i LOVED it!!!!!

----------------------------------------------
here's a few for you, m'friend.....

---------------------------------------

It's amazing the Wiz he's become
Behind curtains he stands, whlle the drum
Of his Passionate songing
Beats on all the longing
Of poets conversing, bar none!

Some thought they had ventured, indeed,
Off to somewhere past rainbows that bleed,
But the spill of their penning
Brought hearts past extending
The hopes that they'd hoped supersede.

One day long ago there was Nan
Who said, "Ron please oh please understand!
We need now a place
Where there won't be a trace
Of the scroll which we've buried in sand"

And so then the pages of blue
Were created by God (thought you knew)
Oh NO! I mean Ron
With his Wizard suit on
And now here we all are! This is true!

Now Voices are heard on the net
And there's words we have penned (can't forget)
While some poetry's brew
On the pages of blue
Show oursleves on Nan's pages who met!

But this is just limerick glory
Some kind of ridiculous story
I'm writing for Ron
The true God of the Dawn
Of the Passionate World ...(signed, Just Dori)

The poets all planned of a meetin'
where they'd poetically pen their greetin's
on limericks like this
then seal with a kiss
the first one there gets good seatin'

now I've been told to chuck it!
and get straight out to Nan's Tuck-it
I've rhymed my verse
rehearsed and rehearsed
and my boss won't hear nuttin' 'bout-it!
