the doctor gave her less than a year
to live back in 96
and that was a special kind of dying
she said
those three hundred and forty days
give or take a few
since who was counting them then
well she was and maybe he did too

she thinks back often of him
and lets her indelicate
elucidate a zenith smile,
of how he danced with her
on friday nights down at the pier
when he and she dressed in levies
and she went braless there
and the reaction was not from chill
but from his fondest attention

she remembers his hands,
those fingers, she says
must have been a surgeon's
the way they entered her heart
and wrote his name
with flagrant conspiracy
to win her soul back
from an affectionate lonely
that went away somewhat abruptly

when hubby found the poetry
and suspicious laughter later
when she woke from a dream
and thought he was another lover
he took the keys to the chevy
and her mrs decorations
from the monogramed stationary
and the set of china his mother
the madame had graciously handed down

she took the insults with a grain
of freedom and a suitcase of blue
moved into a doctors house in malibu
she had accidental opportunity to live
a life of fragile complexity and chai tea
and occasional poetry, if there is time
before they go dancing at the pier on fridays
in their levies and she still goes braless
especially when there is a chill on the breeze

Texasrose, thank you so much for viewing my little gift here...

Sunshine, I am not worthy of being a favorite, but I will make efforts to make you consider me worthy of a smile.  Thank you

DS

You capture this life with tenderness and a smile..then left me feeling the loss of her.  That is great writing!

I loved the sensitivity in this writing, which I very much enjoyed.
