I suppose it’s inevitable
because of that last lie
I find myself teetering
on the brink of goodbye

Painful though it seems
I’m not sure I’ll make it
I hope I can be happier but
maybe I’ll have to fake it

I’m too involved, I care too much
my heart is broken once a day
all I ever wanted from you
was a haven, a play to play.

Giving is my nature
but giving out is what I feel
giving up is hard to do
but it’s what I need to be real

Sharon,

This place isn't an easy place to be in   you described it well.

no kidding.
i think most of us have been here at one time or other, and you described it all too accurately.

*Big hugs!!!* I don't know what else to say...

I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandfather, not screaming, terrified, like his passengers.

'teetering on the brink of goodbye'-scary place to be.  Well-written and novel imagery. I liked the poem a lot.

Sometimes we're left with no option but giving up... especially when we've given all we have to give. *S* You've written this wisely and well, PDV... whether we've "been there", still reside on the brink, or don't yet realize... you've written for many. *S*
