Blood on the moon, he said of a case,
stained windows shed light, old face
an Irish newcomer settles in Canada as a tailor
soon mired in tragedy, his own defense, a failure.

applied laws were rigged, not done today?
national issues from Ireland, tossed in the foray
a suspected anti-Fenian was probably taught a lesson
sympathizers to national spirit wanted a special mention.

Fenians were anxious to bring their issues to a wider forum
McGee wanted national causes left at home, a new decorum
Whalen was found guilty by the same judge who headed the appeal,
had witnessed evidence in his favour but encountered a biased ordeal

He could not question Judge Richards, he was a god
Fenian supports pointed to his involvement as a cause.
In the middle lied Canada, newly emerged from the British and the French
had to deal with issues which sprang from the old country and stenched.

It seems as if Canada, like her neighbors to the south...has become a bit of a melting pot.
Nice work, Martin
