Give Me A Brake!
Give me a brake,
with which
to stop
all the speeding bullets,
verbal and metallic,
the veiled
and unveiled threats
and
attempts to
castrate
opposing views,
religions,
and opinions.
Look into the
rear view mirror
at the carnage
left behind since
the beginning of time.

Road kill.
Collateral damage.
Ethnic cleansing.
Eliminate the Axis of Evil.

Euphemisms created
to distort truth,
to challenge the essence
of Humanity.
Euphemisms that challenge
the pursuit of basic freedom
and justice for all,
freedom to pursue our destiny,
to progress towards
a more perfect Unity,
to progress towards
the goal of making
the (now) oxymoronic word
HUMANKIND
a reality.

Give me a brake,
with which to
stop the threatening...
stop the killing....

Dear God, please
give me a brake.

Dear God, please
give me a brake

Yeah, I often wonder about this life, with all it’s evil and crime and hatred. Give me a brake sums it up perfectly. I guess, the only thing we can do is make our part of the world a little brighter with caring, generosity and compassion.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Thought provoking... and well-written!

I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandfather, not screaming, terrified, like his passengers.

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Kacy, this is so very sad, my heart too always cries out to all the world and I pray with all my heart that we can all reach out to our fellow people and work to bring harmony to each other! (sad sigh) My heart joins yours in your prayers, sweet friend, we all love you so much, God Bless You! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Kacy, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Hey Noah, it's a long hard road out there, and we are in the fast lane. But maybe if we all pull a little harder on the brake? Just imagine the possibilities.
Besides, is there any other viable choice?

If you had taught social studies, I might have paid attention!
I liked both poems but I think you're right, this one is better.  It's got more passion.
Add my foot to that brake pedal!

This is magnificent, Kacy...
Just remember those brakes the next time you see a chipmunk running across the road.
Do they have chipmunks in Alaska?

Duncan, you get an 'A' and a hug.

Lyra, hugs and peace to you, and yes, I always brake for the critters, even the mean 2 legged ones.

Rosemary, thanks dear lady. Some words just pack a whallop on their own.

Kacy, I think God already did!

Yes, you have your hand on the right brake.
But some haven't yet found it.

Brakes are great...I applied one this a.m., went back to bed (was up in the night).

"Humankind" as an oxymoron...yes, it does seem like it sometimes!  I was just commenting to my daughter recently that, left to their own devices, DOGS are usually nicer than PEOPLE!!!  --Or, so it would seem.

(I guess it's true, people don't run after each other and bite, but...)
