Let Go
By Larry Chadwick

Just to be a survivor,
Doesn’t guarantee a win.
Sometimes it’s best,
To be the one done in.

For in the work place,
When times are lean,
Being the one let go,
Isn’t always that mean.

So don’t be overwhelmed,
Some things are meant to be.
Things could be worse,
Be glad it’s you and not me.

March 8, 2002

In honor of all my friends let go this week!

Susan,
Thanks. Life gets hard. But it gets better too!

dor,
Had to pick myself up off the floor. But only after I quit laughing. You totally crack me up. And since you seem to crack yourself up that must make us even or alike. I'm not sure. That's a lie. I am sure. I think. Yup, I'm sure...we are quite alike. At least it seems we are. We both tend to ramble. ALOT. Right? Right. I knew you'd agree. You do agree. Right? Right. See I even crack myself up.

Trying to remember, don't think I've ever been laid off...but I've walked out on a few.  Guess that means I laid them off.  Good for me!  And good for you for writing this for your friends, Larry!

Larry - What a great attitude you have.  I know I would have crumbled to the floor and started crying like a baby.  Then I would have crawled over to my bosses feet and started to kiss them until he took me back at a substantially reduced salary.  But I guess we all deal with things differently.lol

Yeh! When I was a kid I was always getting laid off. Only had one problems with working, bosses. Pooh! And each time I just went out and got a better job. Until one day I fired them all and started my own place. And then I was the boss people hated. And you know what? I even learned to love bosses after I became one. And then three years ago I laid myself off and retired. LOL...

Indeed, being laid off is a good excuse to find someting better. Go for it!

I love your perverse humor, Larry.
I have a son who is a lawyer at one of the world's biggest law firms.  He lives in NYC and makes oodles of money...but oh how he hates his job!
I think I have talked him into quitting and getting a job at a law firm here in Kalamazoo, where the pressure is much lower and the city is much cleaner.
I told him that I needed him to be here now, so I guess I can say that sometimes...illness gives us certain privileges that we otherwise wouldn't have...
like having our kids actually take our advice.
I love your poem, Larry.....there are many things in life which are a lot worse than being laid off from a job.....afterall.....
its just a job
thanks for sharing.

Magnus,
The fun just never ends! Thanks.

Noah,
Stop sneaking around!   Thanks for coming by.

Dave,
The theory of the poem is the lucky got let go. That being a survivor at work isn't always the better outcome. Oh well...I tried.

Donna,
Hey...where is that email? I wanna help choose the pic! And stuff happens... Thanks.

Keth,
Sorry if this wasn't plain. I am still employed. Kind of sad to survive in a place that is in decline. Thanks for your concern though.

newell,
Too much confusion. I still have a job. I was taking the unusual perspective(what's new?) that the lucky ones were let go. But thanks. And I love your story of your career! Very clever way to retire.

Lyra,
You know I love how you think! How brilliant to take advantage of this opportunity to get your son where he belongs...near his mother! You go girl. And thanks as always.
