I had so much to say
But there was so little time
As I took hold of your hand
And I held it in mine

You were unable to speak
As you lay in your bed
Inside my heart was breaking
Many tears since then I've shed

You knew that I was there
As you squeezed my trembling hand
With only hours now remaining
Until you'd drift into that other land

But I wasn't to know that
And I was not at your side
On that terrible Sunday
The day that you died

Your death shook my world
A heart broken beyond repair
Who would now guide me
Now that you weren't there?

So I suffered in silence
And I dealt with my grief
My loss incomprehensible
Feelings of sadness beyond belief

But you left me with a gift
And through my eyes you now see
This precious gift that you gave
Was a love of poetry

* * * *

I dedicate this to my father who
remains my guiding light.Not a
day goes by when I don't think of
him and wish he were here.

Oh Sue, I felt this so much, since I lost my beloved Grandmother this last Friday. I was not with her either, and I so wish I would have known, and been there.
Now I think I have to go cry a minute.
Take care. Thank God for our memories.

There should have been a 'hankie' warning! What a loving poem for your dad. I think there is a lesson here...don't wait to share a hug, a kiss or some poetry with someone you love.

And congratulations on your one year anniversary!! (you should sign up to be a DM!!)

Sue:  What a wonderful gift from your Dad. He will always be with you and some of him winds up in each poem you write, for us to enjoy. This is a lovely tribute to him.

Sue, I know first hand what this poem means to you, and I can fairly well imagine what your father meant to you as well, for I would have written a poem like this, and would have dedicated it thus, had I the words, as you did...

Brava!

Sue,
Oh the agony of such loss I can only imagine. But the joy of your connection lives on! Bittersweet is lifes experience. You always express it so well. You know I love your poems about your daddy. You do them and his memory so well. Bless you dear friend, bless you.

I'd like to thank him personally
For he gave you the ability to write.
If he had not been a good influence,
I wouldn't be here reading this tonight.

So he goes forward in your verses,
written each and every day,
And we all love you here at Pipps,
and hope you're here with us to stay.

For once words have failed me as I read your most humbling comments.  Many of you know that my writing began after losing my father to asbestos cancer and I guess it's true when they say that something good always comes out of something bad.  As long as I continue to write, the memory of my father will live on forever.  Thank you all for your neverending encouragement and kindness.

Take care......Sue
