Eye of the Storm

There is day and there is night, and another
day to come, like more questions after answers;
each one, like silence to silence, changing
from moment to moment, and each one
the same...

Do you ask why "hello" always precludes "goodbye"?
do you ask the hurricane how fast it is blowing
as it hurls you into the air?

I remember a kiss that left no room for words;
locked against you, returning warmth. I remember
the silence, the distant murmur of the surf kissing
the beach.  How that silence stretched out and
outward, like the kiss that folded me into your
scent, the huskiness of your wordless murmurings.
that first time i could not have spoken, had I wished
to do so. Nor would you have let me, for while your
hands were gentle they were insistent, in the
timelessness that spells forever between two souls.

I remember the heat building, between skin and skin,
the sense of time dropping forever through an hourglass
that would never be turned; each touch tingled, and
lasted, lasted and tingled, as motion turned into
music, everything falling apart and together, as if
in slow motion and absent gravity...

It was also the last time my arms had strength enough
to slip around you, the last time my lips brushed yours,
the last time; cheek to cheek, two sets of silent tears
mingled while the twilight flowed into night , as in
a stream unchecked, the last time for two who must
love only this once, yet always...

There is day and there is night, and another
day to come, like more questions after answers;
each one, like silence to silence, storm to eye to
storm, changing from moment to moment, and each one
the same...

Do you ask now how I am, did you even ask
why you had to go?  Do you ask the winter how
soon it must end as you struggle against its cold?

Later, much later, much much later now, when you
had gone as silently as you had come, when all my
questions, like kisses, teetered into the silence
that had no answers, I stared into the darkness,
listening, unable to sleep, unable to dream...

Do you ask the silence even then, when it too,
is gone?

Wow, this was incredible! It felt like passing through the storm-eye-storm sequence as I read it ending with the aftermath of such a storm. Well done!

WOW!!! Oh my gosh, this is emotionally powerful, sweet friend, I felt as though I was spinning in the vortex of this storm of emotions and in the end sitting on the beach, viewing all you left behind and what remained in the aftermath! (sigh) We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is excellent! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton
