It had been Months
Since I left Iambe laughing at me
As I walked out swearing NEVER
No more….

I’d seen Texas panhandle
And Arizona sun in my rearview,
Danced with a few Senoritas
Trying to quiet night fears of growing old.

I pulled back into town after all this time
And headed for the Railstop Bar
To wash the dust and taste of crow
I was about to eat from my mouth
When I saw her truck.

She was there, waiting as she said she would be
When we had talked on the phone
A couple nights ago.

I walked in and took the stool beside her
As Joe the tender sat a beer in front of me.

Her eyes were still the bluest I had ever seen
And this time they weren’t laughing at me
And she didn’t seem to have drawn a bead either.

I almost fell off my stool
When she actually put an arm around me
To the tune of “I missed you” falling from her lips.

I enjoyed this very much. It's a sad thing to be laughed at when younger and it seems when we grow up our standards seem to change.

Morning Peaches,
this is part of a much longer ongoing ( never ending some would say) series of poems about Iambe. Iambe is a construct of my imagination from people I have known...and can be quite a pill.. but holds an appeal to me perhaps because she as a character is so inclusive of many people.. Thanks for the comment and if you want to find the other Iambe poems they are in the archives somewhere.

I think it is the pill in her that makes her so adorable.  Enjoyed!
