If Only's

Through endless streams of reminisce,
She seeks her mem'ries cruel caress,
"If only's" cloud her stricken mind,
While "what if's" dare to challenge time.

A litany of life's regrets,
Barrage her soul in hidden depths;
Awash in anger, hurt and fear,
She fights to bring her senses clear.

No explanations proffered there,
Can lift her haze of deep despair;
Resigned to what will never be ...
Subjected to reality.

Resentment claws from deep within,
A raging howl to her chagrin,
For low the depths that harbor pain,
Still rests the cause, the root, the blame.

No slow rewind can change her fate,
Regardless of her mind's debate;
What's past is gone … what's now is here …
"If only's" bleed … through every tear.

as Larry mentions there is much wisdom in this write, which I don't think is apparent at the first glance...that tends to in form the reader as to what fate lies ahead when
one looks through rose coloured glasses. nicely done

I understand very well the "if only's" but I've come to learn that sometimes you really do have to burn the bridges behind you and move on.  I live in the present and tend not think too far ahead, taking each day at a time and making the most of each.  This poem really made me think.  I like poems that do that.   I enjoyed this, Kit...you're a very good writer.

Looks like a few people have the hiccoughs in here today , in any event, this poem carried a very powerful message Kit, and it is such a shame that people have to get to this point to be that unhappy to feel this way.  Somehow I guess a feeling of no self-worth holds them back from leaving a toxic situation I suppose.  I know it did me   Great poem as usual my friend.

~* If I made you "feel" anything at all today, that makes me smile *~

Oh, how I've missed reading and writing ... have I told you all how much I've missed you lately?  Thanks so much for this warm and wonderful "welcome back" to posting. This old muse was on vacation for far too long, lol ...

It's feels great to post again!

Jwesley:  And I absolutely loved your response James … thank you so very much!

Enchantress:  Thank you for letting me know you enjoyed this little touch of heartache Nancy, much appreciated!

Poet deVine:  Thank you for saying that Sharon … I like to know when something has been "felt". Very grateful.

Larry C:  Aw, thank you Larry!  Much appreciate your kind words … and to tell me twice no less, lol.

Mistletoe Angel:  Noah … your enthusiasm and encouragement are such a breath of sweetness … thank you for that!

Ecrivan:  Thank you so much for looking deeply into this piece and letting me know you enjoyed Ecrivan, very much appreciated.

JamesMichael:  Always a pleasure to see you James … thank you very much for the kind words.

Auguste:  I'm glad you found this a thoughtful piece Michael. I too, try to live in the present … sometimes though, I have to consciously force myself to remember that ... when the "if only's" do hit. Much appreciated.

Tim:  I'm so glad you enjoyed the flow and rhyme of this piece Tim, that aspect is very important to me, and I love to hear that it flowed well, thanks so much (and the echo of the reply was a welcome treat … I got to hear it several times!)

Martie:  What a lovely thing to say Martie. It has been quite a while since I've posted … my longest dry spell yet, lol. Thank you for this beautiful response (this system should hiccough more often … I love that I got to read this a few times, lol)

Tim:  LOL … thank you again Tim (it's not you … the systems been lagging a bit, and we have a post in the Bug forum trying to trace the problem.) Thanks again.

Duncan:  What a great comment Duncan!  Thanks so very much for letting me know you could relate to this piece … very much appreciated!

Mysteria:  LOL @ hiccoughs. I'm enjoying it tremendously!  Thanks for the kind and understanding words Sharon … those "if only's" can have a powerful hold indeed. Thank you for enjoying!

Krissy!  Hi there Krissy!  Wonderful to meet you. You have a wise mom indeed, and I loved that little pearl of wisdom "if if and ands were pots and pans there'd be no need for tinkers".  Thanks for the smile, and for the very kind words. I'm very grateful.!

Much appreciation to all,
/Kit

Sunshine:  Ahhh Karilea ... you've nailed that one for sure. Loved your line about the apple my friend. Thank you for the warm response!

Nakdthoughts:  Those "if only's" are a hard thing to shake Maureen ... thank you for letting me know you enjoyed, I'm very grateful (and it looks like the echo subsided for the time being, lol)

Much appreciation to you both,

Do you see the effect you have when you come here...we get so excited we cant control ourselves and even Athena goes crazy!! LOL

Well my queen of cadence .. you know I love this gem of pen from you,  as you know this moth loves the melancholy poetry and when its constructed this well with the truth written into every line of rhyme divine...
well the only thing better is seeing your smiling face next to it....which brings me back to the effect you have on us
I will try not to press the button more than once but I make no promises  *L*
wonderful write of bittersweet wisdom Kit-gator-girlie.

My old pal Jackson Browne has a line in a song that I think is tattooed on me somewhere....I know its engraved on my soul....your poem brought it to mind...
so I'll close with Jackson who says it far better than I ever could.

"Now for you and me it made not be that hard to reach our dreams
But that magic feeling never seems to last
And while the future's there for anyone to change
Still you know it's seems ...
It would be easier sometimes to change the past"

Oh my gosh. *S* I will tell you first that my heart did little flippy-floppies when I opened the forum and saw your name. *S* The rest of me may be a complete klutz, but my spirits are doing perfect cartwheels!!! *S*

As I read the title, I thought... I'm well acquainted with those critters. *S* And then I read the poem... and geesh, gal!! When did you read my diary??? How did I miss your visit?? *G*

This is wonderful, Kit... perfect rhythm, perfect rhyme, perfectly told story. *S* The only thing I wish I could change is the recognition reading brings. *S* Heaven only knows what my mind could do if it would quit debating itself and wishing for time reversals. *S* On the other hand... I AM blonde. LOL

ROFL ... what on earth is happening to this thread, lolololololol????

OK now …  I KNOW I haven't posted for a while everybody, so I'm trying to figure out if this is a good sign, or a bad sign, ROFL!

Balladeer:  LOL … see Michael?  I just correspond with you briefly, and my poetic side just somehow finds me again, lol. I love your "trip on pebbles" notion in your response … I think that should be a full poem in and of itself … would you ask your muse to take it from there sweet poet? Big hugs!

Janet Marie:  ROFL … I got your note JM!  I know, I know … I saw your three hiccoughs before they disappeared, lol. Thank you so much for this beautiful response. I'm so glad this didn't disappear too, rofl (and I'm copying this thread right now, before I come back and find you ALL gone, lol!)  Thanks JM … big hugs!

Southern:  Awwww … Suthern, I so very much appreciate you. Thank you for these wonderfully kind words. You do my heart good too. Big, big hugs for everything you wrote. That was just so heartwarming.

hoot_owl_rn:  Thank you so much for such a lovely comment Ruth!  I'm glad the message came through well, big hugs and a see-ya-soon!

Magnus:  Oh I love the "I can's" and the "I will's" too Magnus. Most days they rise to the top, but some days they get a little outnumbered!  Thanks so much for the kind words, and the welcome back (again, and again, and again, lololol)

Suetang:  I'm so glad you enjoyed this piece Suetang. That is wonderful to hear … thank you so very much! Big hugs.

Krawdad:   I'm just happy I found a topic … it's been a while Krawdad … but I'm happy I was able to post finally (I was getting a little worried there, lol) Big hugs to you.

Seymour:  Love the fact that you love it Sy!  I am so grateful to you, thank you! More hugs (and I'll even pass on double hugs for the double response, lol)

Strbbux:  Thanks so much for letting me know Floria … I'm glad that came across OK, I think I re-wrote that several times before it seemed to fit. Very much appreciated, big hugs times 10, lol!

Janet Marie:  ROFL, ROFL, ROFL, ROFL …. Oh, JM, I'm just cracking up here, lololol

Interloper: Thank you so very much for the lovely sentiments Interloper, I'm so glad you enjoyed it … big hugs to you.

Balladeer:  ROFL …. I'm rolling on the floor laughing literally!  Even if it's the internet gremlins hard at work, it's sure making me grin a whole lot, lol.  After being absent from my usual reading in Open for so long … I thought no one would remember me!!!! (now I'm afraid to post my reply in case I quadruple up ... or worse ... lose you all in one fell swoop, lol.

Thanks so much for all the wonderful replies everyone … it's great to be home in Open, and I sure don't mind the echoes at all!!!!

Much appreciation to all,
/Kit

Yes, I think there are many “if only’s” in all our lives. You made me think of some of mine with this piece Kit. Another great piece from your pen Kit.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?
