Stricken Angel

I sit and weep in helplessness

To see you in such pain

I feel the sorrow in your heart

The glint of calm you feign

Downcast glance tells it all

There’s no need for words

Screams of the dying souls

Forever will be heard

I feel deep the pride you hold

Of stars and stripes in palm

I feel the fear you hide

In these times of calm

My tariff is in gifting peace

To comfort any storm

Yet in facing this tragic scene

Of my duty I am torn

I reach out to comfort you

To hold you from despair

But my heart too is halved

Hence yours I can’t repair

I mourn by your side my friend

Praying pain’s reprieve

Taking comfort against your arm

Together as we grieve

A truly heartfelt work. Enjoyed. Chris

Brian the ice sculpture is spectacular and your poem does it justice. This is a magnificent poem to go with it. Looks lovely. floria

Wonderful Brian.  I have this pic as well...as it has been making the rounds on the Internet, and now to see it with these wonderful words you have penned really does it justice.
