It all comes down to basic commodities
different ethnic groups travel 7 seas
when newcomers land, bushels of fruit we collect,
a new mix of produce meets unwelcomed circumspect.

We choose our produce at the stand
and turn the apples in our hand
look for a bad spots to meet open eyes,
can't welcome foreigners with nasty sties.

populations come and go, yet fruit markets stay
hold man's fortune in our hands, rudely play?
when foreigners are accepted in this land, we collect experience
enter vast riches of human resources, to harbour rancor is expedient.

when you lift an orange and examine it
think of the rancor that you hold expedient;
you can toss away a bad fruit and pick another
it's a little different when tolerance goes asunder.

I totally agree!  Diversity deepens a persons perspective and allows growth.  I have a child who is different and has been the greatest learning experience of my life.  Lessons come from not only different races, but from diferent walks of life.

Great write!

Great imagery in this one, Martin...but the thought of all of those fruits made me hungry and now I am munching on an apple.

Amusemi,

I appreciate your extension on the fact that its not just races that we can learn things from but different social groups within a population. Would if I could finish a degree in social sciences today
