(pathways) of the muse

   it fled one day leaving
pathways
bits of food behind but when I followed
    the breadcrumbs pecked up
by the harpies' breath and guile
how can one know        the noiseless trail
    maybe the breadcrumbs leave crumbs,
ah to feast on leftovers of others,
    leaves a hungered desire
for the muse within.
        where is the candied house
  containing the wicked witch
and hansel and gretel stroll about
plucking licorice from the side.
    there, there, is my muse,
I bemuse
on the side of a candied abode.
