Introspection

I promised no more tears
from these eyes blinded by reality.
I promised patience, in the hands of time.

Drinking from the bottom of the bottle,
I was cheated, the staleness
forcing me to choke up all the hurt,
all the pain, all the aching inside my heart.

Only whispers rise through the tautness,
squeezing the memories,
choking them into submission.

Lack of sleep drains the body of its strength,
with dreams falling into nothingness.
Morning brings a throbbing of distrust,
an apprehension of the day to follow.

I am overwhelmed by the challenges,
by defiance, opposition, faulting no one
but myself, for the lack of stamina
that I have allowed, with a body in fatique.

As I fight the physical battles,
that voice inside my head remembers
a softer time, a healthier life, a freer spirit
bound by one heart, but ruled by none.

I cannot look into the mirror today,
for Alice is scolding me with eyes of fear.
She touches my face with cold hands
fingers tracing the lines wondering ...
when next they might become a smile.

This is why I prefer talking to my dog, rather than myself.  His view of me is so much easier to accept.  lol  Very intense write, Alice.

very intense write.  This was a deep reach inside.....
perhaps today, the smile shall return...Hugs.

Very deep thoughts here, and I loved the line, "drinking from the bottom of the bottle" you have done well with this sad poem. I hope the mirror will show you happier things in the future. floria

This is powerfully written.  Give yourself a break, allow yourself some space. Things will work out or they won't, and worry doesn't change that. (Sorry, I got started and didn't stop)

Victoria, thank you for always cheering me up..what are friends for *s

hugss

Duncan, you response is too cute. I have a cat but she turns away from me too. And yes, I am a very Intense person..too much  for most...sad to be too caring isn't it?

Gentle Spirit, Alice is the part of me that reaches down my throat and tries to rip out what doesn't belong in my heart.

and the smile was lost for that day, by its end....
Thank you for your response *s

Floria, thank you. The mirror reminds me that what you see is not necessarily what is there. That eyes can be blinded by love..and warns me to not be so trusting. *s

Nan,  you are correct, worrying does no good... it just gives you more lines in your face *s and I have enough of them already.

Thank you

~A~
