"Bear not false witness; let the lie
Have time on its own wings to fly"
                  - Arthur Hugh Clough 1862

"I don't care what people say about me,
so long as it isn't true"
                  - Truman Capote
.
.
I'm merely part of all
of where I've been and who I've met,
robbing Peter paying Paul
always heavy in your debt,
a changing song in music halls
borrowed notes, oft epithets,
blind auditor of sums braille scrawled
by faceless silhoettes.

In Greek the word for Soul
and breath's the same,
do I detect foul aureole
in your vapid vapor's aim?
unexamined reason
the spent treason of your blame,
halitosis whispered breezin'
unversed rumors meant to shame?

Have you circled round
through your malodorous wake?
A drake who muddles water
for it fears reflective lakes,
tis an ugly duck which barters
polluted draught drawn from muckrake,
towing strangers name to slaughter
for the joy found in their ache.

Or is your passing
not a gassing but a scent?
A gleaming shine surpassing
the fresh feel of Pepsodent,
true nobility outclassing
wagging tongues of ill intent,
leaving other folks alasing
wondering where your good heart went.

I'm drawn into the vortex
mindless eddies, thoughtless tides
of the vacuum and the effects
callous words you toss aside,
slander substitutes for intellect
you've no pride when you deride,
for now ignoring I elect
when I don't it's best you hide.

"Happy people have no history" - French Proverb

RSWells~
Wow !  A strong emote~

Not 10 minutes ago, while leafing through my copy of Elbert Hubbard's Scrapbook, I found a newspaper article published in Dear Abby's column, dated February 2, 1991.  Abby stated that it first appeared as a full-page ad in The Wall Street Journal
Author Unknown
quote:
My name is Gossip.  I have no respect for justice.
I maim without killing.  I break hearts and ruin lives.
I am cunning and malicious and gather strength with age.
The more I am quoted the more I am believed.
My victims are helpless.  They cannot protect themselves against me because I have no name and no face.
To track me down is impossible.  The harder you try the more elusive I become.
I am nobody's friend.
Once I tarnish a reputation, it is never the same.
I topple governments and wreck marriages.
I ruin careers and cause sleepless nights, heartaches and indigestion.
I make innocent people cry in their pillows.
Even my name hisses.  I am called Gossip.  I make headlines and headaches.
Before you repeat a story, ask yourself:
Is it true ?  Is it harmless ?  Is it necessary ?
If it isn't, don't repeat it.
How timely your write - how timely my find to share~

Thank you~
*Hugs*

He's baaaaaccccck!      Now I can't help it as this is the poet I know best and love to read!  Just love it when that venom temperature rises! Good closing though on this to ignore them, as people like that only hurt themselves eventually.  Richard this was Grrrrr-reat!

This is excellent... a scathing line drawn in the sand that firmly states ENOUGH... and I'm so very glad I was able to read it with a clean conscience. *S*

To paraphrase my teenager, "Bite me!"
I love the way you release your anger with biting words. Well done, and bravo to you for giving the snakes a taste of their own venom, only with class and style.

You certainly don't need me to tell you how good this was...and as some of the others have said, I know which side of your pen I would rather be on...

My mother often called me her Pollyanna... does that give you any clue as to how I view gossip?...

Pepsodent....that, I believe, is my first time to see THAT word in anything that rhymed, other than its own commercials....see the

BRAVO!!! Oh my gosh, this is sooooooo powerfully expressed, sweet friend, my heart cries out to all the gossip that happens in the world and I just wish we could all get closer to one another and say compliments rather than focus on what breaks peoples hearts and libels and slanders them! (big hugggsssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, this is excellent, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Richard, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Richard darling boy this is one of the most powerful and true poems I have ever read. And I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that this is utterly utterly perfect. The rhyme the structure the flow of this is throughout utterly excellent.

As for Margie girls find oh my that is such an uncanny and timely coincidence, this is truly outstanding
