The Present

As plump wet droplets slide swiftly down the slickened window pane
in the depths of depressing darkness and shadowy outlines of morbid fear
words weave themselves into tangles
nervously knotted into a tedious tapestry of pain

aching with the clarity of a season's wretched sorrow
storm clouds formed at daybreak
their billowy breathless boundaries filled with dust and mist
burst into chilling sheets of rain on the horizon of tomorrow

amidst the morning's joyous crimson sunrise
when dewdrops dance gracefully across the greensward
in a world of broken promises, grey skies always cry
haunting teardrops, oceans of emotions...reddening our eyes

but on the far side of the sun, beneath the darkening skies
lies a world wrapped in shiny ribbon
neither future, nor past...it is the present
it is ours to open now, in spite of truth of lies

so take today and make it yours forever
as planets rotate round the sun
through love and hate and death and birth
though fire and rain may plague the earth
keep this present, love this day
remember truth, forget it never

Madame, this must come up again, A most magnificent write.

"through love and hate and death and birth
though fire and rain may plague the earth
keep this present, love this day
remember truth, forget it never"

And so very much truth in it. You outdid yourself with this one Lyra, it is wonderful. floria

Beautiful images and thoughts.  The internal rhymes you intersperse are very effective.

A few too many modifiers for my taste, but you never-the-less have achieved a wonderful poem and I applaud the evident thought and hard-work that went into this.

(smiles) Oh my gosh, this is soooooo beautifully heartfelt, sweet friend, there may always be tears and sorrow that affect us all, but there will always be a rainbow after every storm and sun behind every cloud and the promise of enlightening love will always be eminent! (kiss on cheek) We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is an outstanding poem and image! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Lyra darling girl Oh my I knew you were good, but I never knew you were this good. Do you know how good this really is? Not just the sentiments although they are excellent. I mean the construction the flow the internal rhythm this is utterly stunning. This truly paints a beautiful picture YOU are indeed a master of art here

I’m not often presented with such delight, I’ve seen wonder and been astounded by it before, this however is utterly utterly fantastic.

You’ve surpassed yourself here. You’re always a good writer, in this you’re a great writer

Do I love this? What do you think? …………. YES I love it

Absolutely first class writing

Lori...thanks so much for your reply, I am glad that you enjoyed the poem

Martin...yes, every day is a gift.  Each one provides us with a brand new present.

Bill...thank you so much, and I am glad that you liked EVERYTHING about it

Floria...thanks for the upward bump and for the magnanimous compliment.

Bart...thank you and also thanks for the criticism about the modifiers...I was actually worried about that, but decided to leave them in because the poem didn't work as well without them

Lyra the words and images in this poem feel like they are coming from the very depths of your soul sweet lady.  Time is a gift, and that is why the call it the "present".  How very well done this was.

The pursuit of truth and beauty is a sphere of activity in which we are permitted to remain children all our lives.
