Even old dogs can fall in love
If they can learn how to trust
Words spoken in friendship’s bond
Heart’s in passion entrust

We may not be perfect
God knows I never was!
But this love still thrills me
Feelings so glorious

First blush of youth is gone
Lines in each face it’s true
Life happened along the way
While I was waiting for you

**

Note:  I just wrote this (and posted it but it disappeared so if it's a double post somewhere, please blame it on my advancing years!) and those last two lines really sound familiar. If anyone can find out if I used them from someone's poem, I'd appreciate it. I search for them on Google.com but didn't find them. I'm a bit paranoid about plagarism right now!! Thanks!

I don't think its a copy, Sharon. I've heard life is what happens while you are waiting to be happy..or something like that.
I like this, anyway. And if it's about you, even more so

(sigh) I too believe this is not plagiarism whatsoever, and I think this is a  feeling we all relate to every now and then, every moment we cherish and just wait for all our dreams to take shape! (kiss on cheek) We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is wonderful! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sharon, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

If you wanna get technical? everything is plagiarism, unless you proclaim orignal thought! I love your tender explorations and know how brave you are to bare your soul...

I liked the ending and everythng you said in between.
Puppy love is all great and fine,
but to be an old dog is the keeper of our comfort zone...... for sure!!

don't think it's plaigerism - i recall something similar from a movie, but worded differently - and it was nowhere near as poetic as this - i liked the subtle analogy to teaching an old dog new tricks.

Old dogs not only can and do fall in love, but need love just like all beneath their years...maybe need, even more, to be made aware of said love as sometimes, it seems so much is taken for granted.

In my family we All still hug, kiss, say the words and share the feeling, but I've been around many where need of the same has been forgotten...so sad for them.

Well spoken PdV...maybe your words will enlighten others, too.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks......but some of his past tricks are not half bad!!     Enjoyed. Chris

PDV...I really loved this poem! I hope that it is about you and that it is really true.
I really believe that middle age is the absolutely best time to fall in love!
I just got married for the second time, this past October (my first husband died almost 3 years ago), and I think that love is sweeter when you are older because you know that you don't have your whole life before you...as younger people do...this makes everything more precious.

I wrote a poem about that and posted it here, a couple of months ago...its called "Midlife Romance"...I'll try to find it and re-post it for you...but I really loved this one!

If they can learn how to trust

Therein lies the problem. *S* Ole Mr. Hit and Run knew that trust thing was fragile... and went for the easy kill. *S* Not very sporting, but VERY effective... so this old hound won't be woofing on the love boat. LOL

But I can twirl my basset ears in ectasy for friends who've found smooth sailing. *S* And you should just hear me croon for great poetry. LOL

I like this very much, PDV... and the last couple of lines seem familiar... but that's often the case when someone states truth. *S* As far as I can tell, they're original. *S*
