Trial

Alone in a room of judges and peers
with a table separating laws from sin
Trenchant defender calls himself seer
with a gaveling jolt, the trial begins.

Man and woman, each became judge
reviewing facts extolled from side mouth
5 ton denial; the accused wouldn't budge
when justice was a game still flying south.

They saw his color; they imagined a crime
Heedless to his suffering from slight
When tests have results of prejudice sublime
then afflictions of bias begin to take sight.

Only a mother gave testament to truth
an alibi to a crime came from family word
repudiated flatly in slanted witness booth
theorems of dishonesty seen but not heard.

If you come to gamble bring buckets of cash
and don't sit at the table if your color is dark
The affluent raises antes, as truth becomes ash
intolerance trumps justice when fairness is stark

They led him away, to a predestined fate
Like a stone idol, he will sit soulless in cell
No heaven on earth for men born too late
A sin of dusk color, has just damned him to hell.

Thank you, Noah.  Some trials are not all held in court, but they are
tried in the court of public pre-perception.  It's a pity, isn't it?

Hi Kat!  Wisdom is simply not repeating past mistakes: of ourselves
and what we see of others.
Hey, did I hear right?  4 dad-blamed inches of snow your way?
Shoot, 'speriencing a heat wave here: 40 degrees!
I realize this poem was sort of long, twisted, but I appreciate
so much you taking the time to absorb it.

You both are good people!  Thankx!

Yes.
"If you come to gamble bring buckets of cash
and don't sit at the table if your color is dark
The affluent raises antes, as truth becomes ash
intolerance trumps justice when fairness is stark"
Sadly, 'tis too often the bare naked truth. We should all be color blind, or perhaps just blind. Could we then see the truth more clearly?

Your message is spoken loud and clear.Too many times the judicial system is preset for what it sees fit. This is a very strong and powerful write.
