The Sonnet

A sonnet is nothing if it has no tale to tell
It is like a penny thrown into a dark wishing well
It’s overacting to syllables rather than the verse
And with no saga to tell I can think of nothing worse

I was unusually determined when first I heard
But it was much much to hard to find the right rhymin’ word
So needless to say I had flunked the class for interest
Long before I had ever wrote to say what I had thought best

Now I’m just a poet without a collegiate degree
All because I didn’t learn how to write my poetry
I guess it was I didn’t like thinkin’ all to that much
Now I am just a farmer who does what he thinks and such

Still, a sonnet is nothing if there’s no tale to tell
And it’s surely like that penny thrown in a wishing well
.

Writing isn't just something I do, it's something I am.
To write of feelings that touch all hearts in some manner is my delight.
-Marge Tindal

You sound like me in highschool... I was always sick for the two weeks in the middle of the winter when my class studied poetry... and when I would hand in my work... the teachers all said that I didn't use the right imagery... great write!!!  I see that you were away for a while... I'm a new member myself... gonna have to go digging around and check out your other posts.

Cherish the good memories past and look forward to the adventure called Tomorrow.
But above all... be kind to yourself today.
