A Face of Stone that Cries Alone
~~~
A face
reveals a story
so
just look
into those eyes
listening
in a reading hall
through smoke encircled sighs
A face of stone
that cries alone
through many tears
survives
And circles back
before the mob
as consciousness revives
~
A shout of laughter
echoes
over mimic
over mock
He staggers from his chair
as he volunteers to talk
The picture of disgrace
surely living
from a bag
The sight
the smell
the living hell
have pinned him with a tag
~
Fifty honored poets
express concerns
about his ways
We clapped
we cheered
they felt revered
we showered them
with praise
But standing there before us
living flesh
upon the stage
He stands alone
a face of stone
and we
just spurn
his cage
~~~

I've read this three times, Rex, and the imagery is overwhelming...perhaps I am seeing more in this than there is...and on the other hand...perhaps I know this man...

well done, Sir...your consciousness speaks loudly...

Excellent! Did this really happen? You've captured a reality here that MUST have happened.....very well done Rex.

I found I could read several different viewpoints into this piece Rex ... each one unique. The depth in this piece is wonderful. Beautifully flowing and rhythmic, very much enjoyed!

Best wishes,
/Kit
