The Poet's Soul

This poet's soul is racked with pain
words and phrases keep it sane
emotions played out through rhyming and timing
replace a life of whining and pining

painful thoughts, too hard to say
when written on paper, keep tears at bay
never glancing between the lines
this poet's life looks outwardly fine

a deeper probe reveals the sorrow
and fear of what may come tomorrow
this poet's heart and soul are broken
by sadness and hurt too deep to be spoken

a husband and son have both been taken
in one short year, two lives forsaken
and so, for this poet's unspeakable grief
the words and the phrases provide relief

Lyra,

My heart breaks with yours; my eyes weep with your tears. Please accept some of my love for a little of your pain. God gave me lots of love to share, and made me strong to help use it to absorb pain. Take my love for a little of your pain, and maybe we can both feel a little bit better.

Oh..this gets right to the soul of a poet. Do we feel more intensely? Maybe not, but we have the ability to write about it. This is excellent.

I'm even up at night,
Writing down my dreams,
My pen never stops it seems,
I hear these voices inside,
With words as deep as the dark,
Urging me to write down all,
and tearing me apart.

I do know how you feel....

Why is it that poets are born from the fires of adversity and the ashes of times past?

I know your pain, my dear.
and I agree that it is throught writing it down that the pain is diminished even a little by sharing it with others.

Love, Light and Peace

God bless you and grant you strength through these unimaginable losses. Poetry indeed has been a great release for me as well through trying times and a way of sharing the better ones. Enjoyed.

Lyr this touched my heart so, I know the feeling you speak of here, Thank God you are able to write and express all that you feel, as I do too. And I feel sorry for those in sorrow that cannot express it and get it out. This is truly lovely and sorrowful. floria

Thank you for your replies, everyone.  I am sorry that I couldn't thank everyone individually this time, but I have been out of town a lot recently and I try to come back here whenever I'm home but I can never seem to catch up.
Thank you all

Lyra,
This is a beautiful poem. I loved it very much. We poets, are here to give beauty and love to the world...agreed but we're also poets to soothe our own grieves. I am glad you wrote this out, it is something that my mind keeps telling me...I am sorry for your losses and do keep writing!

yes. . . the poet's soul. . . speaks. . . and feels. . . and yet, always manages to write. . .

well done. . .
