What words do you speak?
My ears, though hearing them,
Do not understand the why…
Fail on the knowing

They fall
In hailstone rhythm
Beating tender shoots
Promised to grow,
Leaving stripped stems
To harden and die

What words?
In language not born
From romantic tongue
Do assail the walls of my comfort
Leaving gates wide
For invading hordes or thought?

I fear now
I shall not hear again the bards melody
Nor dance in light of eye
But be doomed to deafened silence
From these words.
