From businessmen to lovers
They come through my front door
Too many clandestine affairs to mention
I've seen and heard them all before

Just another day in paradise
In this life that I lead
As a motel receptionist
On so much gossip do I feed

I see people who are sad and lonely
Many don't care to hide a thing
There are times I know for certain
That they remove their wedding ring

So straight faced I must remain
'tho inside I quietly smile
Whenever asked for a room
A place to just 'rest' awhile

The 'day rate' we call it
A room for an hour or two
Many rendezvous occur here
Thankfully not in full view

Some are loud and sleazy
Some are quiet and shy
Then there are those
Who are just passing by

The housemaids often find things
Like viagra packs in a drawer
Such images I find so amusing
Sending me laughing to the floor

But whilst I am at work
I'm professional through and through
As I aim to make you feel welcome
For maybe one night or two

So if ever you've in the area
After travelling many miles
Please call in and see me
And I'll reward you with a smile

* * * * *

This is written from pure life experience.
I am actually a part time motel receptionist
and I love what I do and love the people
I meet not just from Australia but from all
parts of the world. I reckon I could write
a book about the goings on I have witnessed!

Loved the humor of this poem Sue....My wife worked in a local motel for a while, I remember the stories she came home with LOL. If we come to visit, give us a "Quiet" room OK!!

Thank you for your comments.  This was just a fun piece that I'd been trying to write for a while.  By the way Brian, if ever you and your wife are in town I'll upgrade you to the Executive Spa Suite!!

Take care......Sue

Sue:  Well done description of the life of a motel receptionist.  You have to REALLY like people to hold a job like that!
