"I will fight no more forever"
the wise Indian Chief had said
wails from a mourning village
they are weeping for their dead.

Smoke rises from the ashes
in dawn of early morn
a nation broken hearted
their spirits being torn.

Somewhere in the distance
war drums fill the air
wreaking havoc through their land
hope now turning to despair.

See the buffalo rising
hear the white wolf cry
listen to white mans thunder
echoes in the evening sky.

The spirits of yesterday walk
listen closely to their tale
the legends are not forgotten
and their heritage will prevail.

If you listen closely
in the quiet of remember
you can hear his words
"I will fight no more...forever....."

On the wings of words our spirits fly....and our souls are free.

This reminded me of that painting called "End of the Trail", have you ever seen it? This would go so well with that. Very well done!

Donna~

There are times when I read you and I am soooo amazed,  this among many is one of those times....

Lauren~

Step through the
barrier of my mind,
enter my soul,
feel my desire,
let my eyes guide you
into the shadows
of my heart

Startime, I write when I hear,
and I remember them.....thanks hon.

Noah, you are a breath of fresh air
here at pips.  Thank you dear one.

Dulcie, I have seen it and yes I love it
also.  Thank you.

PDV, glad you stopped by and
so pleased that you enjoyed this one.

Sandra, I am glad you have left your words
and yes....their heritage is strong.  Thank you.

Lauren, your words touch me deeply,
and encourage me to keep trying when
I often feel like the muse has flown away.
Thanks dear heart.

Just a great poem depicting the feelings of the times.  I really enjoyed it.

Live today like it was your last day on earth!
