Sometimes I awake to find thoughts of you on my mind.
Memories of how it used to be between you and me are all the occupy my time.
I dream of you holding me tight,
It helps me make it through the night.
Why things are different between us now I need to know,
Why did things get worse when our relationship was supposed to grow?
From you I once imagined a life full of happiness and bliss,
But yet all I recieved was anger and sadness.
I gave you so much of myself, and so much of my heart,
How could you not realize you were tearing me apart?
I asked so little of you and you gave me so much less,
But yet I still remained my heart was oblivious.
I tried so hard and wondered what I was doing wrong,
I guess in actaulity, we were just singing different songs.
We were so very different with so few things the same,
I was ready to be serious you still wanted to play the game.
I see now that it wasn't meant to be,
That when I was with you I couldn't really be me.
The time comes in every relationship to move on and to grow,
And that time for us is now this I've come to know.
From you I gained wisdom along with the heartache and the pain,
And although we cannot be together in my heart your memories will always remain.
You will always mean so much to me and that will never change,
Though my feelings for you now lie within a different range.
Friends forever I hope, soul mates of some kind,
You will always be a part of me never straying far from my mind.
My love for you brought knowledge, from all you put me through I learned,
And that knowledge was so precious, it was worth the pain of being burned.
My once fragile heart was forced to become strong,
It's ready now for that special someone to come along.
I see in you so much, much more than you could know,
But you need to open up your heart and let your feelings for someone grow.
One day you too will see the power that lies within the heart,
You'll meet that certain someone with whom you'll never want to part.
My hopes for you are many, my dreams for you much more,
For now though I am forced to walk right out that door.
But this is not goodbye for I will always be there,
When you need an ear to listen or a peson just to care.

this is a beautiful poem..... I can see that you are a person who holds few grudges... to wish someone well even if it isn't with you.... hoping that they learn how powerful the heart is. Takes a strong and reasonable person..... Bravo!!! By the way.... Welcome to Passions... I hope you like it here..... we are one big family.... Now take your time and browse the other poets on our forums.... I am quite new here myself... but I have learned that the more poems you read and comment on, the more others seem to find your poetry..... after all, that is what we are all here for.... the love of poetry and to share ours with others. Excellent writing...this is a part of love...it doesn't always work out the way we expect it to...but someday it will for those that open their hearts for love...James

I thank everyone for there kind words about my poem. This boy broke my heart but it seems to me that writing makes me feel better although I know I am not quite as talented as most of you are I am trying.
I appreciate your appreciation of the emotion I put into this...

Hi! Welcome to poetry land! I can relate to the emotion in your poem perfectly!
I like the ending of it and how you say that you will still be there if he needs a friend.

Welcome to poetry land. You've written very well about leaving a relationship on a positive note. It does no one any good to leave on a soured love note.
