I am guilty of reading into things that are missing
only because I wish to see more clearly, perhaps to understand.
At times I find your behavior strange,
at the same time I question my own,
and I wonder what it is that draws me to you.
I've not a single answer as there are several,
so I'm taking the fifth on that.
I feel like a child who suffers from separation anxiety
I often wish I could line up all my ducks in a row
and keep my feathers from being ruffled time and again
I long for just a day that I might be mistaken for a swan
and perhaps you might come stand at the edge of the lake
and see me for who I am.

The first lines made me smile in recognition of myself, and then this:

"I often wish I could line up all my ducks in a row
and keep my feathers from being ruffled time and again"

made me laugh out loud at the mirror image of me in you! smiling, clever lines there!

Enjoyed muchly, Blues!

Hi Serenity~
Thank you for leaving such a fun reply!
How does the saying go, 'if you can't beat em join em'
I've got this mental image of
the mother duck getting all worked up!
(sad to say she looks like me)
It's nice to hear from you,
and thank you for laughing with me.

I'm glad I didn't miss this.  I'm agreeing with Serenity, it makes me smile.  I think they call it the attraction of opposites, of which I am guilty also.  It usually has more to do with the swan than the thing that ruffled its feathers.  The thing I like about this medium is that the swan may stay in its lake and still communicate.  This is very good.

Mirror man~ Thank you very much for such a nice reply, yes you're right about it having to do with the swan as opposed to the ruffler.
Sometimes we get ourselves all shook up for no reason at all.  Thanks again.

Victoria~  I'm glad you made some sense out of this.
It wasn't my intention to imply that I am some kind of swan!
Although I like the thought of it.
Thanks and *huggers*

(sigh) These are such beautifully sentimental thoughts, sweet friend, may He forever smoothen your wings and feathers of your heart and have you flying happily always! (kiss on cheek) We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is wonderful! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet friend, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

I absolutely love the rhythm of this one- and the use of metaphors...I really related to this piece.

above everything else, love one another...

This is excellent! *S* I was chuckling at lining up your ducks without your feathers being ruffled... but the smiles turned wistful at the end... for don't we all wish to be seen as we really are... and loved anyway? *S*

It would be nice to always be understood, thats how I feel reading this. I like the swan idea too, though.

Blue - I enjoyed this very candid and introspective write.  Some advice though, if you want to avoid getting your feathers ruffled you should shave them all off.  Problem solved.   Nice writing.

In the words of that immortal cat, Garfield
"I resemble those remarks"
Truthfully, Lori....this is an exquisite piece about a universal feeling...that is why so many of us can see ourselves in this poem.

You are truly the swan!
