half-dog

And we came upon the half-dog
lying in the road.
It said,

There was one along here not long ago.
Beautiful long hair,
beauty in her eyes
a grace about her
as she read the nightmare.

"I have not heard such talk,"
said she, "since his lecture
on the refusal of gravity,"
referring to the great talker.
She then took her knife and filled the chalice,
the price of admission.

Menisca was her name,
and I could see through her
to the rising swarm.

There was first the field
of impossibly tall stalks,
what might be giant maize in bloom.
And then the men like ants
from out of it
to talk in strange words
at the tree stump
while many miles away
the flame roared.

And behind them
an old house
inside which were children
a boy and girl
playing seek and find.
And the boy bringing a box
inside which was
a thing unliving
eating the debris of stinking dead.
And inside the unliving were the gears unwinding.

Note to anyone interested: I have taken out what I consider to be the worst part of this poem.  Since it had nothing to do with this part, I believe the meaning of the work is unchanged.

This is a mind boggler if I ever read one.
Very interesting indeed.

Squinting my eyes searching for the meaning that I know must be there somewhere.

Shoot this poem gave me nightmare visions and left me searching for a beautiful rainbow to take away the fear I felt flowing from this poem...*sigh* I do love your writing...but this one hurt me inside somehow...**big hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

BluesSerenade -- This is actually my muse telling me what he thinks; I had to shut him up for a while to get things done.  As for the first part, it seems to be his usual nonsense.  But thank you for asking.

Startime -- believe me, I would never even dream of hurting you.  Sincerest apologies extended.

Martie -- it wasn't intended to be a difficult read.  But it was a difficult write.  I took out a lot of stuff.  There are at least two more parts to this, so don't read Circumstance, and I'll try to post something more pleasant.

Noah -- I will try for those nice dreams.  This stuff is poison.  Thank you.

By saying "hard to read" I didn't mean you should write "pleasant"...difficult is quite often from the deeper place and has the impact of climbing from there into the words. Just keep on listening to your muse, they usually know.
