Winter’s Ebb

it was February’s four-thirty hour
sun was bright
shadows were lengthening by the minute

moisture had begun its rise
from earth
in air coating my skin
nipping my neck and shoulders

it seemed to take its rest
a little heavier than moments ago
wilting the strands about my face
mimicking sweat upon my chin

escaping wind’s toweling,
it bathed the hollow of my cheek,
even stepped inside with me
and waited to be dried in the hearth-glow

its tenacity amazed me
taking long to wane
the moist grip
that encircled me

at last
home’s heart
clothed me
in downy warmth

making me free
to the open arms of labor
and toil

I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Hi Virginia, this is really a beautiful poem.
Great lines in there, I'll keep it.

I like this a lot, Virginia!

Brrrrr! That's why I moved from Chicago to Florida. And now I can escape into the warmth of the forest. Wheeeee!

Thanks for sharing!
